Pre-Planted Containers in Time for Memorial Day ...

Place your order by 8 p.m. Thursday, May 16

One of our growers has a tight turnaround for pre-planted container orders, which means they need our requests by Thursday evening.

If you're hoping to receive these sort of lovely containers for your front porch or back patio by Memorial Day, you'll want to place that order by 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 16. After that, planters like this will still be available to order -- but their arrival date will be in early June.

Plants ordered this week will arrive a few days before Memorial Day, by May 24. Enjoy the long weekend when you'll have back-to-back days to do some great planting!

• The Plant Club is ordering from a great assortment of growers this week, with many annuals (including pre-potted containers and hanging baskets).

• We also are giving you access to hundreds of perennials, in a variety of sizes. And there will continue to be many to choose from, for the rest of the garden season!

• Each sale week through the summer, we'll have lots of the "favorites" in a variety of sizes, as well as many unique plants, so make sure to come take a peek each week! Enjoy the ease of picking the perfect ones for your garden without having to drive to multiple retail centers. The Plant Club loves being a one-stop-shop for online plant buying.

We only listed 12 special selections, but there are hundreds of others to choose from, so use our list as a starting point and have fun experimenting with some fantastic varieties you will probably never find in a local plant shop (or at least not all of them in one shop!).

Growing a Cutting Garden --

Ever wish you could walk out to you garden and hand pick a farmer's market-style bouquet for your dinner table?

You can! The plants we feature below offer great options for these kinds of bouquets through the summer and into the fall.

Consider these tips to create the cutting garden of your dreams.

Full-sun -- the most popular cut flowers need loads of sunlight.

Well-watered -- make sure the garden has easy access to water for the soil (and to fill your bucket, to place fresh-cut blooms)

Less-noticeable space -- if you intend to cut bouquets, be prepared to take most of the flowers. From time to time, this will leave the plants mostly with foliage.

As you make your selections, think about growing plants in the same color palette to create a unified bouquet with several textures; you can choose bright colors, or pastels and whites.
