AB 1382 Passes Assembly Judiciary Committee

Sacramento, Calif., January 16, 2026 – Yesterday, AB 1382, the Ethics Over Aesthetics Act, authored by Assemblywoman Leticia Castillo (R-Corona) and sponsored by political animal advocacy group, Social Compassion in Legislation (SCIL), passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee with a unanimous vote of 12-0. Earlier in the week it passed the Assembly Business and Professions Committee with a vote of 17-0. The bill will prohibit the sale of animals that have been genetically modified for cosmetic purposes.


Next, AB 1382 will be voted on by the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
