Newcastle Days Draws Near!

We're getting so close to Newcastle Days, the City's signature community event of the year! Stay tuned for a special e-news next week, which will be all about the fun to come. Meanwhile, visit newcastlewa.gov/newcastledays to learn the latest on activities, performances, and more.

Please note that the tennis courts at Lake Boren Park are going to be closed starting Friday, September 8, at 2 p.m. for Newcastle Days activities.

Comprehensive Plan Open House

The Newcastle Planning Commission will host a Comprehensive Plan Open House from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, in the Commons at Risdon Middle School. This is the first major opportunity for the community to learn more about the plan and the process for updating it, and to provide feedback on the various sections within it. Please come and lend your voice to Newcastle's development and growth over the next 20 years.​

Stormwater Pond Restoration Update

This week, as part of the Stormwater Pond Restoration Program (S-037), City crews removed vegetation and excavated soil at Pond 8, which is at Coal Creek Parkway SE opposite SE 84th Way. This work is necessary to maintain the originally designed pond-storage volume and to ensure the pond functions as intended to mitigate surface runoff during rain events.

Special and Regular

City Council Meetings: September 5

We hope you'll join us for our regular council meeting on Tuesday, September 5, at 7:00 p.m., in person at Newcastle City Hall. Prior to the regular meeting, at 6:00 p.m., City Council will hold a special meeting in order to hold a study session on the 2024 budget.

In addition to the hourlong special meeting about the upcoming budget, this meeting's agenda includes a presentation from Police Chief Steve Kajihiro about license plate readers.

If you would like to submit written public comment about issues of importance to you, please contact the Newcastle City Clerk at cityclerk@newcastlewa.gov. Verbal public comment is accepted at the beginning and toward the end of each regular council meeting, in person and remotely, and your councilmembers welcome hearing from you. Instructions for submitting live comment remotely can be found in the meeting agenda.

Movie Night at Coal Creek Family YMCA, September 15

Join the Coal Creek Family YMCA for an outdoor screening of Super Mario Brothers on September 15. The event begins at 6:30 p.m., and the movie will begin around 8:00 p.m. Please bring your own chairs and blankets, and feel free to wear your jammies!

Upcoming I-405 Closures

The upcoming closure of I-405 will affect Newcastle residents:

September 8-11

Weekend full closure: NE 30th to 112th, bi-directional – 10:00 p.m. Friday night, September 8, 2023, through 5:00 a.m. Monday morning, September 11, 2023. Please note that the 44th street bridge will also be closed, and there will be no access across I-405 at 44th all weekend long.
