We are thankful for you!

Another Month of Caring - November 2023

All locations of The Caring Place are closed Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th for Thanksgiving. Our stores will re-open for business on Saturday, November 25th.

Dear Friends,

We are so thankful for you! For the last 38 years, you have ensured neighbors in need have a place to go when crisis strikes. Many of you take special care to keep our Food Pantry full. As the Food Programs Director, I see this generous spirit in our community and feel particularly grateful, but today I have a big ask.

I want to share with you how this year is different. We need food every year, and that has stayed the same. But with the growth of our community and the uncertainty of wages, benefits or jobs, we are seeing a steady increase of neighbors in need. In fact, the need is growing so quickly that our Food Pantry regularly breaks records. In September, we served over 3,800 people. That's an 81% increase from last year! And this year, we have already served more people than ever before.

Now it's time for my ask. Each month of the holiday season, September through December, The Caring Place asks for specific items to be donated to the Food Pantry. In the month of November, that item is cereal. This is a popular item that flies off of our shelves. Since we can't keep it stocked, we ask our community to hold Cereal-Only Food Drives. If you don't have the time, space or group to have a Food Drive, please consider making a monetary donation to the Food Pantry this holiday season. You always come through for us during the holiday season, and we need you to show that neighborly care once again.

  • Cereal or Breakfast Food Donations can be made in our 2000 Railroad Avenue drive through, Monday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., except for November 23rd and 24th, when we will be closed for Thanksgiving. If you have questions, please email fooddonations@caringplacetx.org or call 512-943-0738.
  • Monetary Gifts can be made at caringplacetx.org/donate or checks can be mailed to The Caring Place, PO Box 1215, Georgetown, Texas, 78627.

Thank you for your continued support and care,

David Earl

Donating at The Caring Place!

Donate Food

The Caring Place (TCP) brought back Hunger Free Holidays Food Drives with a twist in 2023. The campaign, intending to fill the Food Pantry with the things it needs most, is asking the community to donate specific items each month through December. The November request for the Food Pantry is for Cereal or Breakfast Items. This includes various cereals, grits, oatmeal, pancake and muffin mixes.

Targeted drives help The Caring Place use its resources wisely and ensure the community has a wide selection in the Food Pantry. Please check the monthly giving guide this holiday season when planning Food & Necessity Drives. Items may be delivered to the Donations drive through at 2000 Railroad Avenue, Mon-Sat, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

If you need the items weighed for a group Food Drive, you can park in the reserved parking spot on the north side of the building and a Food Pantry team member will assist you with unloading and weighing. This reserved parking spot is available Mon, Tues, Wed and Fri, at 2000 Railroad Avenue, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Due to the record number of people utilizing the Food Pantry, The Caring Place cannot deliver or pick up the large blue barrels for collection during this year’s campaign. However, you can borrow a barrel if you provide pick up and delivery. You may also make monetary gifts at caringplacetx.org/donate to help The Caring Place purchase the food the organization needs most.

TCP’s Director of Food Programs & Facilities, David Earl, explains, “Due to limited space and time for sorting, we think it’s important to focus on one type of item each month. It will help us supplement the Food Pantry with critical items in this busy time while keeping sorting time to a minimum.”

For additional information about Food Drives, call 512–943-0738 or email fooddonations@caringplacetx.org.

Donate Your Stuff

Our Donation drive-through is open the same hours as our store at 2000 Railroad Avenue!

Bring your new and gently used items Mon-Sat, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

These donations provide free or affordable necessities for our community and support our mission to provide for the basic human needs of all people in our community. Through our community's amazing donations, we raise money to help neighbors with rent, utilities, transportation and more when they have a financial hardship.

One Last Thing:

Make an interactive gift! Learn how!

You probably already know the holidays are an "ask" time for The Caring Place. You may have even received our fall newsletter in the mail recently, including a request for a monetary gift. And chances are that isn't the last time we will ask for some help this season. There is a reason why we ask, of course. It's because you are the reason we can help people in crisis. You ensure that when a family has a medical emergency, we can help pay rent to provide stability. When someone loses their job, we can help provide groceries during the job hunt. When an unexpected death (and loss of income) occurs, we can help with a utility bill to ease the burden. We all experience hard times, but only some have the funds to get through those times easily. If you believe in the power of community, we encourage you to do your heart good by helping neighbors in need this holiday season. Please take a moment to use those giving envelopes that come in the mail or donate online to enjoy some holiday spirit that only comes with generosity. We greatly appreciate it, as do the thousands of people in Georgetown and northern Williamson County that you help.

Would you like to make your donation to The Caring Place a more interactive gift? If you give online on Giving Tuesday, which is Tuesday, November 28th, Jill and Rita will email you a personal thank you video letting you know what you are helping with this year. If you want to make your donation as a gift to someone, we can send a personal video to the person of your choice. You can also give and waive the video option. Either way, your gift is appreciated!

GIVING TUESDAY POLL

We are interested in your Giving Tuesday plans. Please take this quick poll to let us know how you can support our community this year!

Will you pledge to make a gift to The Caring Place on Giving Tuesday, November 28th?
Yes! We can do more when we all give together!
No, but I will make a gift this holiday season!
I save my big giving for The Caring Place Amplify Campaign!
I will reach out and learn more about The Caring Place first!
I give to another local organization, but will keep you in mind!

Don't worry, if you can't wait for Giving Tuesday,

giving NOW, is always acceptable!
