Another Trip Around the Sun!
Yesterday was my 60th birthday! I spent it with my family at Disneyland! And it was one of the best days of my life!
Happy 60th Birthday_ Leslie_
I love my family, first and foremost. And I love birthdays so much -- not just mine, but everyone's. I know some people don't like to celebrate like I do, but why? Why not celebrate one more year on the planet?
Growing old is a gift. Some people don't get to grow old (including some very dear people in my own family) so I look at aging as a gift and a blessing. And yet, our society places such a stigma on aging. What is up with that?
Just last week I saw a slide show of famous women over 70. Do you realize Sally Field is over 70? Or Raquel Welsh? Or Susan Sarandon? Holy Moly! And they are all beautiful and still sexy and still working. Amazing and pssst -- none of them look like my grandma did when she was in her 70's!
One could argue that these women have unlimited resources to ease their aging but I don't think it takes a lot of money to look good -- except maybe for plastic surgery if you opt to go that route.
Speaking of which, that's another stigma! Talk about double standards! Our society stigmatizes aging but frowns upon plastic surgery. People do realize that our bodies are gradually dying right?
(Sidebar thought -- do you ever wonder where is the actual tipping point? What is the point where we transition from physically growing up to physically winding down?)
Unless you have some sort of super-human genes, we're all going to need a little plastic surgery to carry us through to the end if we want to avoid looking like a wizened old apple; although I do have to say there is something inherently beautiful about a woman aging gracefully.
Beautiful Woman
I have met many a woman who radiated beauty even though it was apparent she'd had no cosmetic procedures. The irony is, our minds don't seem to age even though our bodies do. And the really tough part is that the older we get, the worse our eyes get, the more we rely upon magnifying mirrors, the easier it is to see how old we look!
The good news is, we live in an era where most of us are aging better and living longer and at a time when most of us care about how we look. I don't mean in a vain or hedonistic way but in a "I love myself enough to take care of myself' positive way.
I'm not sexist in the least but I do believe men have an easier time with aging than women do. As long as they don't wear black socks with sandals, I'm pretty much okay with however a man ages (sorry to stick that image into your brain -- I could plant the 'It's a Small World' earworm if you prefer!)
Have you noticed though, the shrewd marketing efforts being made by quite a few companies these days? Not only are women bombarded with magazines and TV ads and a plethora of products to 'slow down the aging process', but now men too are getting attacked!
Man in facial cream
Just this week I saw grooming products for men that included face wash, moisturizer, mustache conditioner and body lotion. Can they not use the same products we do? Is their skin really that much different that they have to use special products designed specifically for men?
Like I said, pretty shrewd marketing that I think a lot of us buy into. As a consumer, if I wanted to encourage a man to institute a skin care routine, I would probably buy man-specific products, especially if he had never done anything like that before or if he was insecure in his masculinity.
Despite the fact I got a little sidetracked there with the ageism/sexism marketing, the point is, I am now 60 years old and really quite excited about the freedom being sixty creates.
I loved my 40's when I worked on the road and in my 50's I feel like I really came into my own (particularly since I spent the entire decade building this company) and now, as my 60's start, I feel free to be unapologetically who I am and free from caring so much about other people's opinions.
Old Hand Young Hand
Yes, we are all aging and it's worth it to take enough pride in our appearance to invest in some routine maintenance or an occasional nip/tuck. And no, I do not look as good as those celebrities but you know what? I'm ok with that (although maybe I should invest in Photoshop?!?!? hahaha)
(Another sidebar thought -- who has tried Botox and is it worth it in the long run?)
When your next trip around the sun comes full circle, I hope you will relish it, enjoy it, and celebrate it! We will never look as good as we look right now! I may be on the downhill side of old age, but I am excited about this next chapter. Are you?

Kans for Kids
You Are My Sunshine...
Since we're talking about trips around the sun, now is a good time to discuss yearly or multi-annual services for your home. Your home is one of the biggest investments you'll
Mr. Cool Sunshine
make and taking proper care is essential to prolong the serviceable life of its various components.
The number one thing is to protect your home from moisture, be that errant sprinklers or leaking pipes or rain intrusion. Moisture wreaks havoc and can promote the growth of biologicals (I don't like the M word [mold]). This is especially true here, where we live in a very sunny and warmer than usual climate.
Most of the services listed below should have been done already in preparation for the winter season, but if you haven't done so, please call us to schedule any or all of the following...
Yearly Services:
--Preventative maintenance for your golf cart
--Servicing your pool heater
--Roof inspection
--Plant seasonal flowers
--Service mister systems
--House wash
--Replace auto windshield wipers (for cars here full time)
--Deep clean BBQ's
--Check fire sprinkler pressure and equalize if needed
Twice Yearly Services:
--HVAC maintenance
--Change your smoke alarm batteries
--Fertilize and/or trim your plants, shrubs and trees (frequency & timing depends on plant variety)
--Clean pool filters and chlorinators (frequency and timing depends on water hardness and debris accumulation over time, i.e. if your pool sits near bougainvillea or trees)
Quarterly Services or as needed:
-- Window cleaning
--Screen inspection (avoid tears, sun rot, worn out rubber gaskets)
Every 3-5 years depending on traffic and usage:
--Deep clean and seal tile, stone (or pavers) on floors and showers
--Deep clean and seal countertops
--Check faucet aerators and shower heads to keep flow up and minimize leaking opportunities (dirt/sand accumulates and restricts water flow -- if faucets are leaking, the cartridge may need to be charged -- the desert hard water ruins them)
This is by no means an all-inclusive list, but if you address these items, you'll be well on your way to extending the serviceable life of your home's basic elements.
Executive Errands® does all of these services and many more. No matter what you need, we are here to help! Send us an email or call us at 760.898.9604

Elf Services!
Did you know Executive Errands® offers Elf services? Just last week we helped decorate a client home for Christmas! And I am known for my 'department store' decorated trees!
Christmas Elf
But our Elves aren't limited to decorating. Nope. We can shop for you (gifts and groceries), wrap, package for shipment, stand in line at the Post Office or HoneyBaked ham or any other place; we can take delivery of packages so you can hide them from your family, address holiday cards, assist with parties -- if it's on your holiday 'to do' list, we can help.
Most importantly, if you don't like to delegate the actual holiday chores, why not delegate your regular ones?!? That way you can do the fun stuff and we'll take care of the rest!
You don't need to be a regular client either. If you need help 'just this once' give us a call. 760-898-9604 We love to help ease the stress of the holidays.

David Bowie said "Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been".

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we understood in our 20's or 30's what it has taken 60 years to figure out?   How much simpler would life have been? How much happier?
Strong Woman
I've been very blessed in that my life overall has been very good. I've had my share of trauma and ups and downs but from an aggregate perspective, it has been a happy life even though for the better part of it, I have been alone.
I am fiercely independent because I had to be. I am self-sufficient, because I had to be. I am a problem solver, because that's just my nature (hahaha)
And that's exactly the point -- we are who we are because of our experiences, our choices, their logical consequences and the way we've dealt with it all.
We get a choice you know. We may not be able to control everything that happens in our lives but we do get to choose how we react to each and every situation.
I wish I could say I always react well -- that stress rolls off without taking it out on anyone and that I never take things personally, but I'm human and despite my best intentions, sometimes I react without thinking.
Never too old quote
These days, I try to employ the 3 second rule -- grab a breath and think before reacting. I follow the Four Agreements (by Miguel Ruiz -- if you haven't read it, DO IT NOW!) and do my very best to embody those tenets.
Sixty is going to be great! I look forward to this decade with eager anticipation. There is nothing I can't accomplish. Let's see how this first trip around the sun goes.... I'm sure it will be fantastic (and I'll let you know next year)!
Until next time, let me know -- how well do you react to upsets in your life? Do you employ a 3 second strategy? If not, how do you control it? If you want to take advantage of the sale on our educational materials, we can get it to you well before the holiday.

And if you have any insight on Botox, I'd appreciate a head's up!
