GVCO Community Programs

As GVCO has evolved out of girl’s youth basketball program 20+ years ago, we have become most proud of how we support so many community members both locally and regionally. Throughout the year through programs like Caring Hands, Challenger Gym, the Siddhant Suresh scholarship fund and more, we impact a great number of people in many, many ways.

We are equally understanding that it’s not the GVCO organization that accomplishes this, but the wonderful and generous families that make up our Great valley community. During this holiday season, our GVCO Board of Directors would like to thank the entire community for their continued support year in, and year out.

The way to change the world is through individual responsibility and taking local action in your own community.

Caring Hands

There are over 100 student volunteers involved in our GVCO Caring Hands during the year. During our Good Neighbors initiative each December, student volunteers wrap gifts for seniors.

This year the student volunteers wrapped several hundred gifts that were given to the members of Surrey Services in Devon, The Phoenixville Senior Center and the Phoenix Center for Rehabilitation.

“You really gave everyone a Merry Christmas!” – Joann McCracken, Development Director, PASC

“Thank you so much! It brings so much joy to everyone here to have a gift to open and shaking it to guess what’s inside.” Kat Naessens, Marketing & Communications, Surrey Services.

Challenger Gym

The fall session of our GVCO Challenger Gym program had a record number of students participate this year.

There were 21 students participating in the program, with approximately 25 HS student volunteers assisting each and every week.

Coat Drives

Two of our elementary schools, General Wayne and KD Markley, partnered with GVCO Caring Hands and held Coat Drives during the months of November and December. Gently used and new coats were donated at the schools by the very generous families here in the Great Valley community. GVCO Caring Hands works directly with the administrators at several local Devereux locations to match up the coats with someone less fortunate who is in need of a winter coat.

There were a total of 135 coats donated this year!

Thank you to all the fantastic volunteers and donors involved in this year's coat drives.

Siddhant Suresh Fund

The Siddhant Suresh Scholarship Foundation once again helped a number of families with the cost of GVCO programming.

Nearly two thousand dollars in partial and full scholarships enabled children to participate in seasons of GVCO programming.

The scholarship was founded in memory of Siddhant Surresh, a 10 year old Great Valley boy who passionately loved participating in our GVBL programming. To learn more about how you may help other future families in need, please contact info@gvco.org or visit the Siddhant Suresh Scholarship page.

Senior Programming

From the outset of our vision for the GVCO Community Center complex, Senior and older adult programming has been a key part of the plan. The Great Valley community has lacked a strong presence of older adult programming for many years, and the hope is that our new community center will help bring additional active programming for this demographic of our community. With the onboarding of the 1st phase of this new facility later in 2023, GVCO continues to plan for this type of programming in the near future. Learn more about our vision and the new GVCO Community Center complex.

Steps4Hope

Steps4Hope is a nonprofit foundation established in 2014 by the Moules family, following the tragic loss of their son and brother, Jonathan.

Steps4Hope is committed to honoring Jonathan's life by bringing together the community to raise awareness, end the stigma associated with the disease of addiction, and save lives.

The Steps4Hope walk and 5k run was held this year at East Goshen Park. Our Great Valley Cheerleaders inspired the runners and walkers while Caring Hands volunteers handed out water and monitored the course.
