John 17 Weekends

Church of the Week

Holy Land and Oberammergau

Each of the last three weeks I’ve shared supernatural stories: the start of this ministry through a direct word from God at a Messianic Jewish congregation; getting connected to a former chauffeur to Yassir Arafat who’s now working for John 17 unity and reconciliation in the Middle East; and God providing strategic office space before I even knew to pray for it. Keep reading for another miracle I invite you to join me in praying for.

God has been moving in such remarkable ways! From this last week:

  • I had the opportunity to speak to a group of UA students in Navigators who are on a spring break mission trip – to Tucson! A couple hours before I met with them, God whispered “You’d better have something tangible they can engage in if they also want to help answer Jesus’ John 17 prayer.” I reached out to a principal of an alternative school walking distance from the U of A... sure enough they asked how they could get involved… and I get to be matchmaker.
  • The result of five very distinct ministries collaborating was that a deep need and itch got met for several people – see this week’s Harmony Hub for the details.
  • Yesterday I was able to meet with several key leaders in the child welfare arena – and once again I came away impressed with the incredible opportunities a united City Church has been given to share the love of Jesus in such tangible ways to people so incredibly thirsty for it.

I LOVE working to see Jesus’ John 17 prayer answered, in my hometown and anywhere else He opens the doors. God has raised up two additional people who, like myself, have said, “I’m in. No turning back. I’ll raise my own salary support to give full-time attention to this, with God’s help and

Here’s your part. Last December, I set and shared a goal for the amount we needed to raise to enable me to give full-time attention to this, as well as cover the bare-bones start-up and infrastructure needs. By God’s grace, we met that goal! Now two more people want to help… and their help is essential, since
our responsibilities have more than tripled in the last month or two as well. So… we’re 44% of the way to our new goal. Will you pray that God will help us meet this goal, too, in the next 50 days? Perhaps God has another miracle in the works. Click HERE for more details.

New News about

John 17 is Jesus’ strategy for fulfilling the Great Commission, and the more divided our world gets, the more critical a united body of Christ becomes.

God has raised up three people so far who are committed to raising their own support in order to give full time attention to Jesus’ prayer. Will you be part of the answer to not only Jesus’ prayer, but ours?

J17 Ministries is largely responsible for three high impact programs already in existence in Tucson, and it’s obvious God is interested in more than merely maintaining the status quo. Click HERE to know how to pray more specifically… and how to help answer that same prayer.

I have enjoyed learning from my brothers and sisters in Christ who are participants in the Pastor Partners gatherings. We learned early on that we have much to learn from each other’s perspectives. Last year we invited Apostle Warren Anderson from Living Water Ministries to preach at Desert Hope Lutheran Church. He was very well received. So we naturally thought of inviting him back. But as we discussed this the conversation moved to the question: “What topic would you be uniquely equipped to
teach?” I was thinking, “Why not tap into his passion for ministry and learn from the deep well of joy and experience that God has blessed him with?”

Apostle Anderson reflected on the journey that Living Water Ministries has been through and how the development of their leadership team has been significant to them as a faith community. God equips His people for the work of ministry and this development has been a wonderful journey of spiritual growth for the people of Living Water Ministries.

I asked Apostle Anderson if he would come and lead a seminar for us at Desert Hope. He agreed, but offered even more than I asked. He offered to bring along an entire team from the leadership of Living Water Ministries. He told me that they had been developing a seminar on the Apostolic Gifts that God gives to the Church for the building up of the Body of Christ and that perhaps this opportunity was just
what they needed to bring it to completion.

I immediately invited them to come share it with the people of Desert Hope. We are very excited to have them joining us this Saturday, March 16 to do just that.

*Editor’s note – From the world’s vantage point, the only thing a primarily African-American Pentecostal Church and a primarily Anglo Lutheran church have in common is Jesus – and that’s the point! Through Jesus, we discover many additional passions and needs that we all hold in common.

Five ministries (represented by this picture) collaborated on the first-of-its-kind theological seminar on March 9 – the ministries were J17 Ministries, Ministry Resources Institute, Via de Dios, Resonance Journal , and JA Simms Ventures. Each brought their strengths to the table in unique and perfectly-suited
ways, just the way 1 Corinthians 12 describes the City Church.
Over forty people attended, and after the event one of the attendees, Linda Leatherman, said this, “I’ve tried to read theology for years and concluded that you have to have formal theological training to make sense of it. That’s why this was so encouraging and excellent. It was substantive but also applicable and totally understandable.”
Stay tuned for similar collaborative ventures in the future.

Our schools, churches and non-profits run on volunteer power! The problem is, we often do not know where to find volunteers, how to treat volunteers and how to keep them coming back. Having served with thousands of volunteers in schools and churches over the past 30 years, Robin Blumenthal (4Tucson's Education Domain Director) has learned some valuable best practices to recruit, train, empower, and appreciate the volunteers that enable our organizations to thrive!

Music moves hearts like nothing else. It’s why music is such an integral part of our worship services. The 10th Anniversary RoadShow Tour is coming to Tucson! And we have 2 free tickets to the senior pastors and one guest. (If you’re not a senior pastor, we’re making room for associate pastors too! The "catch": your senior pastor gets first dibs.)

We recognize that the ‘big’ churches often get all the perks, but we love churches of all sizes so Catalyst Resource Group is going out of our way to give these free tickets to churches of a 500 or less size only . Who says pastors can't have fun too?!
