10 Years of Growing Together

Ten years ago Unity of Lehigh Valley had been without a minister for about 9 months.  A couple people knew this teacher out at Unity Village and she interviewed and tried out.  The board and congregation invited her to come and minister to them.  And so began our journey, growing together.

At that time, a number of ministers had come and gone at ULV.  This new minister had never piloted a church on her own.  So we began with all the uncertainty of a fresh adventure.

Change is a constant.  People have moved in and out of the spiritual community we call Unity of Lehigh Valley.  When I reflect on the past ten years I notice there aren't huge dramas.  We're in the same building, although it has been renovated.  We have created mission, vision and core values that steer us.  We have celebrated births and weddings and mourned deaths.  Together we have cultivated a culture of transparency in communications and integrity in our transactions.  Keeping our "Agreeing to Disagree in Love" covenants, we have navigated bumps along the way.  Our policies establish competency expectations for our members and accountability for our governance.  We have served countless people in countless ways through our community activities, our tithes and our webcasting, although the way we serve continues to evolve with the community changing around us.

I hope that we have worked to maintain a balance between stability and evolution; roots and wings.  I hope that whoever joins us for however long they stay finds both the acceptance of a warm welcome and the challenge and support to grow.  May we not grow weary of doing good and may we find comfort in our times together.    I feel blessed by the last ten years of doing spiritual community with Unity of Lehigh Valley and grateful for the work Spirit has done through all of us.
