Fall Update from the AVC Foundation
Across the nation, difficult economic times have caused a decrease in giving to college institutions; however, the Antelope Valley College Foundation continues to successfully serve our students and community with an impactful, resilient, and positive approach.
Your continued support and generosity have played a crucial role in making these initiatives possible. Thank you for being a part of the AVC community.

| | | | Donor-Funded Scholarships | | Fundraising Campaign Highlights | | FALL INTO GIVING WITH THE FOUNDATION | October will be a time to give all month long here at AVC! Beginning Oct. 1st, you will have an additional opportunity to directly support education and student success by giving to a new campaign this year. | Fall into Giving, the new, rebranded fundraising initiative that replaces Giving Tuesday in November, provides an opportunity for all to make a difference in the college district and community. The AVC Foundation has set a fundraising goal of $10k with proceeds going directly to programs that mean the most to our donors. | This year, donors may designate their gifts to any program or scholarship on campus. Simply click on the Donate button below to get started and write in where you would like your gift to go. For example, Nursing, Basic Needs, etc. Consider a monthly recurring payment. Together, we can make a difference. | | Historically Black Colleges & University Tour | | The annual Historically Black Colleges & University Tour is an opportunity for AVC students to explore transfer opportunities and scholarships, develop their leadership skills through fundraising and organizing, and to broaden their cultural and historic horizons. | | This year, twenty-six students and four faculty members will go on a seven-day, six-night HBCU tour to visit seven or more schools, meet with admissions representatives, tour campuses, and receive scholarship resources tailored to each individual school. | | Additionally, this experience will include visits to significant historic and cultural sites including the Frederick Douglass Home, National Museum of African American History and Culture, Hampton University Museum, the MLK Jr. Monument, U.S. Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, and more. | | Scholarship Meet & Greet Breakfast a Resounding Success | |
This year, the AVC Foundation Annual Scholarship Meet and Greet Breakfast, held on May 16, 2025 at the John P. Eliopulos Hellenic Center, was a tremendous success, bringing together nearly 200 scholarship recipients and the donors of their respective scholarships. | The annual meet and greet event comprised of scholarship recipients, including those continuing their studies at AVC and transfer students; scholarship donors; AVC staff; and community members. Guest speakers included AVC President Jennifer Zellet and Foundation Executive Director Dianne Knippel. | Each year, students who complete one application are automatically considered for more than 200 scholarships offered through the Foundation. This streamlined process ensures that eligible students are considered for multiple funding opportunities aimed to help achieve their educational goals. | | | | Top AVC Student & Scholarship Recipient Receives Rare Honor | | In a remarkable acknowledgment of commitment, intelligence and community impact, recent SOAR High School graduate Photini Qarmout has been named a 2025 Milken Scholar -- one of only 20 students selected nationwide. | Qarmout, a 2025 Antelope Valley Press Future Leader and AVC scholarship recipient, will attend Claremont McKenna College this fall to study neuroscience and public health policy. | She is the first student from SOAR High School to receive this prestigious honor. The award includes a $10,000 scholarship and provides lifelong access to a collaborative network of support, mentorship, and professional opportunities.
| Mother and Son Walk Stage Together at AVC Commencement | |
When Karen Ramos and Joshua Torres walked across the commencement stage at Antelope Valley College this spring, it marked more than just the end of a chapter; it was a shared milestone. | The mother-and-son duo not only earned their associate degrees together, but both were also awarded scholarships from the Antelope Valley College Foundation to help them pursue the next steps in their academic journeys. | Their story began in 2022 with a simple conversation about Joshua starting college. In that conversation, Karen admitted that she had started college in 2001 but never finished; she assumed it was too late to go back. | | | | Contributions Given Through the Foundation
