ealers are bringing whether your passion is fun stuff from the 1960s or fine antiques.

This is one of those browsing shows where you never know what's around the next corner. All we can guarantee is that it will be vintage. If you're a DIYer, the resources are throughout this event for old lighting, decorating and just making something unique and different.

There aren't too many categories that aren't well represented and again, the fun of the hunt makes that discovery a lot more fun. A small sampling includes turn-of-the-century furniture, antique toys, Victorian dcor, vintage clothing, holiday collectibles (including Christmas), garden antiques, oddities, estate jewelry, pop culture, vintage clothing, glass, china, pottery, paintings, vintage prints, radios from the 30s-50s, movie memorabilia, sports, cast iron, mid-century, sterling flatware matching, framed vintage prints, costume jewelry, estate jewelry, coins, well you get the idea......

helmet
Gary Martin has been collecting a mix of USAF and USN flight helmets fron the 40's to the 70's for some time and has just started to sell a few. Gary and Susan Thorn will present a wide variety of items including a vintage patton sword 3side saddle, a wonderful doll house, jewelry, Bauer and things any inveterate collector would find in their attic.  You'll find Susan and Gary in Row M. Booths 1319,1320,1321.

With vintage decorative items being one of the most popular ways to decorate your home, we are pleased to be able to offer some of the best turn of the century American oak in the country. furniture - hobbitMark Grimshaw, second generation dealer with Hobbit Antiques from Naches, Washington, always brings the best, ranging from dining sets, ornate china & curio cabinets; all from the early 1900s.  Hobbit Antiques is located in Row J, Booths 1022 & 1023.  furniture rudolph desk

R & R Antiques, local dealers from Amboy, are another fine company with Victorian pieces such as stick and ball and that beautiful scale at the top of the page. R & R Antiques is located in Row K, Booths 1115 and 1116.

jewelry pearl necklace shutterstockEstate jewelry is such a compelling category and is another of the most popular today.  And compared to jewelry store prices, you're much more likely to find pieces that have character and value for much less than you would think.  This particular show has quite a bit to chose from: Gary Germer & Associates, Silver Bear Antiques, Pacific Jewelry, Carole Kabot Antiques, G/M Galleries, Brown Bear Antiques, Hunter's Antiques, Island Trading Co., Millridge Antiques and more. You'll find plenty of vintage men's watches too.

One of our show's favorite dealers is Floyd Pearson from Lakehead, California. Floyd specializes in dogs - bronze, glass, cast iron, you name it, his theme is dogs of every breed. We're happy that Floyd is making the trip up to Vancouver.  He has many repeat customers who look forward to a good gab while picking out their latest finds. Floyd's booth is always fresh, with new things every time.

DECORATING IN VINTAGE? PERIOD LIGHTING IS IMPORTANT
Pratt Mission lighting fixture

This Arts and Crafts ceiling fixture

will be at the show

Churchmouse Antiques, owned by David and Karen Pratt, are longtime exhibitors at all of our shows and they never fail to bring vintage lighting to fit just about every room in the house. Everything they sell is all vintage and includes antique ceiling fixtures, wall sconces, floor and table lamps.

Their lighting ranges from the late 1800's to about 1930. They also feature a fairly large selection of Aladdin alacite lamps with original  finials and a few pieces of very good quality antique furniture pieces mostly in walnut & mahogany. And again, no reproductions, everything they carry is of the period.  The Pratts can be found on the wall in Row W, booths 121,122.

Another excellent source of period lighting is Tony and Debbie Davies. You'll find them in Row L, Booth 1222. For a map of the show and list of exhibitors, pick up a free program guide at the entrance.

BRING YOUR FAMILY TREASURES (or garage sale finds) AND FIND
OUT WHAT THEY'RE WORTH

The show hires accredited experts that would normally cost you $125 an hour to tell you what you have and what it's worth. At the show, for $5 per object, you'll get a verbal market evaluation. The word 'value' has many definitions, ranging from insurance (replacement) value to forced liquidation (you need to pay the rent and have to sell that item today). The value that our experts give you is what your item would bring if you sold it in a retail setting such as at a show, over the web or in a shop. Vintage items typically depend on supply and demand. Certain things go in and out of favor.

market right now. it doesn't mean that won't change in the future, but the popularity of an category dictates its value. Popular categories right now include Vintage clothing, estate jewelry, kitchenware from the 40s and 50s, pop culture items such as Star Wars and G.I. Joe, tobacco related items such as cigarette dispensers and ashtrays, decorative items including painted furniture, period lighting, framed vintage prints and early men's wrist watches, to name just a few.

Evaluations are available during all hours of the show. If the line is long, you will be sold a ticket and given an approximate time to return to the booth.  The wait, at the most, is about a half hour.

STEVE NATOLI BRINGS ANRI CARVINGS, LITHOS

Steve's selection of carved Anri dogs as letter openers, bottle stoppers, boxes and more

Steve Natoli never fails to bring items that are unique and beg to be taken home. One of his specialties are Anri carvings. Made in Italy from 1912 through the mid 1960s, while they are still available, these are the real deal. Hand carved as bottle stoppers, letter openers and all kinds of decorative things, their wimsical style has made them a popular collectible for many years. Steve has the largest amount offered in any show on the west coast.

Steve also has some really beautiful lithographs and original prints of ships including the Queen Mary, the Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse and the 1912 USS Imperator. You'll find Steve Natoli's booth in Row F, booths 622 and 622A.

SPECIAL EXHIBIT BY THE CLARK COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY  clark county historical 2013
Each year at the Clark County Show, we've been fortunate enough to have a great display about the early years in the area.

This year, the exhibit is called Road to Equality: the Struggle for Women's Rights in the NW.

Washington Women gained and kept the right to vote in 1910. Oregon Women gained and kept the right to vote in 1912. On the National level women received the right to vote in 1920.

From the victory of the 19th Amendment to the struggle to pass the Equal Rights Amendment, many women - and  men as well - worked their entire adult lives to secure women's rights.  Today, in the Northwest and across the United States, women have made inroads into formerly male-dominated fields including politics and commerce, but it has been a long road and large disparities still remain.  The exhibit will challenge as well as educate and entertain as you learn more about some of the local heroines from pioneer times until today.

toy shutterstockVINTAGE TOYS!
One of the best dealers in the show for vintage toys is Marci Carvalho, with Character Collectibles. Marci has purchased several large collections lately, a wonderful thing for those who love old toys.  In addition to her most recent, a candy container collection, you'll find old tin wind-up toys, banks, comic charactor items and Steiff among other toy related things. You'll find Marci in Row I, Booths 915 and 916.
Antiques Industry Seminar Coming to the Tacoma on January 31st.
Because the business is losing some of its longstanding dealers as age creeps up, there is room for those who have collected for many years or are retiring and looking for a small

business or those with a love of things from the past. There are many ways to be involved, whether you list items on the web, take a showcase in an antique mall or if you participate in shows such as ours. Doing shows exposes you to the people in the business who are a close knit, friendly bunch who share your appreciation for vintage things and have the desire to make money at it. For our last seminar in Portland, this last Sept. 9th, 150 people spent the day learning the tricks of the trade. We think it's time to offer one in the Puget Sound area.

On Thursday, January 31st, we will be at the LaQuinta Inn in Tacoma. Each talk lasts 45 minutes and starts at 9am and ends at 3:30pm with a lunch break at 11:30 (there is a restaurant at the hotel). The cost is free and there is nothing for sale. Our speakers are all currently active in the industry with an average of 25 years. They include Hugh Weber, a dealer of 40 years who will share information on How To Buy, When To Buy & What To Buy. Tony Berg, a full time dealer, will speak on Where To Sell. Randy Coe will speak on How To Keep Records In The Antiques Business, Kitty Victor, one of our ISA appraisers will offer Ethical Guidelines On Buying and Selling and Vyanna Troutman will talk about how to set up a good looking booth, handle customers and make their buying experience the most positive.

We only have room for 50 people and need to know if you're coming. If you would like to register, please send an email with SEMINAR in the subject line to info@palmerwirfs.com and we'll send you a confirmation.
A NEW NAME FOR PALMER/WIRFS
christine palmer tan background
When Don Wirfs began the company in 1974, it was called Don Wirfs Advertising. When Christine Palmer became a partner in 1999, the name was changed to Palmer/Wirfs & Associates. Then in 2007, Chris began the process of purchasing the remainder of the shares in the company. In May 2013, the last payment will be made and we felt it was time to change our name to better describe the ownership of the company, since Don Wirfs is no longer involved and Christine Palmer and her team have been successfully producing the annual shows for the past 20 years.  The & Associates part is very important. Our team, Katie, Tisha, Vanessa and Chuck are responsible for most of the operational parts of putting a show on the floor and I sure couldn't do it without them.  The name change will be gradual so our website is still www.palmerwirfs.com for now and our email addresses are still info@palmerwirfs.com. Those things will change over the next several months.
