SUSTAINABILITY IN GWINNETT

Share your input to guide a sustainability program for businesses

Gwinnett County is developing a new sustainability training program to help businesses create a greener, more resilient future. If you are a business leader or community manager, we need your input to ensure this program reflects your needs, priorities, and challenges.

Take the seven-minute Gwinnett County Business Sustainability Survey by Thursday, July 31 to share what matters most to you. Your responses will inform the program workshops, resources, and tools to help businesses advance sustainability in Gwinnett.

PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Meet with County staff to get to know Gwinnett!

Want to know what’s next for Gwinnett neighborhoods? Seeking resources for your community to tackle neighborhood concerns? Join us at a Community Connections event on Wednesday, August 20 at Rhodes Jordan Park in Lawrenceville or on Tuesday, August 26 at the Gwinnett Community Resource Center at Bethany Church Road (formerly OneStop Centerville) in Snellville! From 5:00pm to 7:30pm, community leaders are invited to share feedback on upcoming projects, learn about County services, and connect with their peers. To learn more, visit GwinnettPnD.com.

WATER RESOURCES

Be mindful of what you flush

It might seem easier to flush items like wipes, cotton balls, or paper towels, but these don’t break down like toilet paper and can wreak havoc on your plumbing. Apartment living offers the convenience of a close-knit community without the responsibility of repairing appliances, roofs, or plumbing systems. However, that doesn’t mean these things don’t cause inconvenience.

Remember, toilets are designed for one thing — disposing of toilet paper and waste. Flushing anything else can lead to serious clogs or backups both in your home and the public sewer system, resulting in expensive repairs. To keep your pipes clear and your plumbing trouble-free, toss these items in the trash instead. A small choice now can prevent a major headache later. Keep your plumbing safe — flush only toilet paper and waste! Visit GwinnettCounty.com/WhatNotToFlush to learn more about what not to flush.

GWINNETT CLEAN & BEAUTIFUL

Get rid of your hazardous waste

Clear out your garage and basement and dispose of your household hazardous waste! Join us at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day event on Saturday, July 26 from 8:00am to noon at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds in Lawrenceville. You can bring up to five disposable containers of waste products like paint, motor oil, batteries, cleaning chemicals, and more. For a complete list of acceptable waste products, visit GwinnettCB.org. If you’d like to volunteer at this event, visit VolunteerGwinnett.net.

County brings free vision screenings to local children

Gwinnett has partnered with Vision To Learn to provide vision screenings, eye exams, and prescription glasses to children in underserved areas at no cost to the children or their families. Vision To Learn brings mobile clinics directly to schools, making eye care accessible to those in need. Through this partnership, the County aims to extend the organization's reach, helping to remove vision-related barriers to learning for school-aged children across the county.

The mobile vision program begins July 1, aiming to serve more than 590 students by the end of the year. The County is investing $100,000 in this initiative to help eliminate obstacles to accessing vision care due to financial constraints or lack of resources. For more information or to get involved, visit GwinnettCounty.com.

County offices closed for Labor Day
