Apopka Memorial Middle School Community Brief
Monday, January 9, 2023
AMMS Community Member,

This past week we began the third nine-week quarter and the second semester of 2022-2023. I hope you enjoyed the holiday season and were able to visit with friends and family. Building off of our momentum from the first semester, we got 2023 off to a great start as we now head into the first regular five-day school week of the new year.

This week the FAST PM2 will be administered to students on Monday, January 9th and Tuesday, January 10th. For both days we will be on modified bell schedules. (About the FLDOE FAST exams)

● Students need their OCPS laptop and charger for testing. Please have your student charge on Sunday night in preparation for testing on Monday morning.

● Please have students arrive at school on time on Monday and Tuesday. I always recommend a good night's sleep and a good breakfast on test days for our Seahawks.

● During testing students must keep their cell phones off in their backpacks. Their smart watches and Airpods should also be turned off and in their backpacks as well. If any of the items are found on a student during testing even if they are turned off this can cause an invalidation of their test.

As this last week had only three school days, this edition is a bit briefer than most but we thank you for reading and wish you and your family a very healthy and prosperous new year!

Teacher Feature
Congratulations to three Apopka teachers who earned master's degrees just ahead of the winter break!
On the weekend before the winter break, our teacher Seahawks celebrated their completion of the Lockheed Martin Academy program at the University of Central Florida. Over the past two years, three teachers took opportunity to improve the quality of mathematics and science teaching and become leaders within the community.

Congratulations goes out to Ms. Herrera, Mr. Maldonado, and Mrs. Whitt on earning your M.Ed. degree in K-8 Mathematics and Science Education!
