I am very excited for the start of the new school year on Monday!
I know this will be the year for tremendous growth in your student both academically and personally. Our teachers and staff have been working tirelessly to get ready for this day and they are prepared to challenge our students to set high goals for themselves this year. We truly want to see EVERY student achieve higher levels of knowledge and skills.
I want to encourage all our parents to get involved and join a committee or volunteer.
Our PTSA will be meeting on Tuesday, August 13th at 6:00 pm in the Media Center for the first meeting of the year. Come out and see what opportunities there are for you to get involved. The School Advisory Committee (SAC) is also forming and will be meeting for the first time on Tuesday, September 10th at 5:30 in the Media Center. In addition to these committees, I will be holding Parent Roundtables at different times throughout the year to get feedback and suggestions from our parents, so look for those to be announced at a date in October.
We had an eventful pre-planning week with teachers. We had a few breakfasts, made trail mix and enjoyed an ice cream break. We also learned how to use the new Skyward gradebook and discussed our student achievement data from last school year. We welcomed our new staff members and celebrated with them as they were sorted into a "House" (see photos below). Our PTSA helped us on schedule pick up night by selling memberships, laptop covers and t-shirts.
The grass has been cut, the rooms are ready and there is excitement in the building.
Bring on the students!
Kelly Pelletier, Ed. D.

Dean's Corner
Welcome back SEAHAWKS!
The Deans,
Dr. Sears (6th grade),
Ms. Kushner (7th grade), and
Mr. Kolling (8th grade), want to remind you of a few things upon your return.
- Remember to follow the OCPS Dress Code when choosing your outfits. All shoes need to have a back on them (No Slides). Undergarments should be concealed (NOT seen). Clothing should not have indecent holes showing skin (thighs and up).
- Get to class on time. We understand during the first few days, everyone is learning their schedule. We need you to make an effort to get to class on time.
- Leave items at home that are not needed for school.
- Come to class prepared to learn.
- Bring your ID to school every day and make sure it is visible to staff. Everyone on campus must have an ID or a visitor badge visible at all times for safety purposes.
- Cellphones are not to be visible in your classrooms.
This is going to be a great year, and we look forward to working with you to be successful!

Campus Safety
Orange County Public Schools will be promoting two communication tools for reporting suspicious activity: SpeakOut Hotline and now the FortifyFL app.
As part of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Safety Act, school districts are required to implement a student crime watch program to promote responsibility among students and improve school safety. FortifyFL allows students and adults to report school related suspicious activity through their online reporting tool or mobile application. The app is free and can be found in the App Store and on Google Play.
Remember Seahawks, if you ever see OR hear of something suspicious or unusual, please say something to any teacher, staff member, coach, our SRO or your parents. Thank you for keeping aware this school year!

Monday's Motivational Moment!
CHANGING YOUR PERSPECTIVE
To improve your results on anything, consider changing your perspective. For example, raise the stakes.
In a recent research study, one group was given a simple temptation and told to say in response to it, "I can't," while the other group was told to say, "I don't." Participants told to say, "I can't" gave in to the temptation 61% of the time, while participants told to say, "I don't" gave in only 36%.
When we say "I can't" we automatically give ourselves a way out. We have a choice. Actually, we could give in.
But when we say "I don't" we're powerful. We're determined. We're not making a choice.
The lesson for our Seahawks? What we do - or don't do - is based on something much stronger: our identity. We don't, because that's who we are.
WELCOME BACK SEAHAWKS!
