Apopka Memorial Middle School Community Brief
Monday, March 27, 2023
AMMS Community Member,

This past week we got the final nine-week quarter of 2022-2023 off to a successful start. The upcoming eight weeks will be busy with a variety of different events and activities including student performances, track & field meets, recognitions and celebrations. Please remember that on March 28 student report cards will be available on the Skyward system for the 3rd quarter. If you have a student at Apopka this year, please review your child's grades with them sooner vs. later as we still have two months of school remaining.

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful week.

Mrs. Lisa James
Principal

OCPS News
1) Weekly Superintendent's message:
Superintendent Maria Vazquez talks about expectations in the last nine weeks of the 2022-23 school year.
2) Earth Day and Food Waste Prevention
To celebrate Earth Day on April 22, 2023, Orange County Public Schools and Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) are teaming up with states and cities across the country to celebrate Food Waste Prevention Week, April 10-16, 2023. Our mission is to raise awareness and inspire a call to action to address food waste in our home, workplace and community.
Throughout the month of April, Food Waste Prevention Week is offering several webinars for OCPS staff and students to learn about reducing food waste at home, school and in your community - sign up free registration at https://www.foodwastepreventionweek.com/webinars

Did you know???

  • Reducing food waste saves families money. A family of four can save on average $1,800 annually.
  • Up to 35% of all food produced is thrown away rather than eaten. Safe and nutritious food that is currently thrown away could help feed hungry people.
  • Greenhouse gas emissions from food decomposing in landfills is a major contributor to climate change. Additionally, reversing this trend provides an opportunity to conserve precious land, water, energy, and human resources.

Take the challenge and learn how to reduce the amount of food being wasted in your home and our schools by following @FoodWastePreventionWeek on social media and visiting www.foodwastepreventionweek.com
