AMMS Community Member,
Seahawk families, today we launch into the final month of the school year. Can you believe it? We have 20 school days remaining. We are deep in the final season of school, which is always heavy in testing. If you think about where we are academically at this point, you can compare it somewhat like to what our Apopka sports teams go through with their seasons. They have their regular season games or meets all along which lead up to cluster playoffs and then championship play (see our Seahawk Track & Field segment below). By comparison, we learn and take tests throughout the year, then everything comes together—students hit peak ability and they have the chance to show what they have learned. They may feel like there is pressure, but this time of year is truly an opportunity. Here is the chance to show all that they have learned since last August.
I know the habits, the note taking, the studying and practice will all pay off for our Seahawks, in whatever exam they are taking! The key now for students is to remain confident and think success. Their teachers have them prepared, and they have done the work. Parents, we do ask that you to make sure your student gets their rest the night before an exam and eats a healthy breakfast the morning of an exam. Those two actions alone in combination with a positive attitude, will give them an advantage.
Thank you very much for reading. Have a good Monday!

Blackout Poetry with Mrs. Perkins
AVID students had a chance to celebrate National Poetry Month in the media center with Mrs. Perkins. Mrs. Perkins provided students with book pages and guidance, Students were to create their own poems using words and phrases on the page. The unused words were then blacked out to create original poems! The students will present their poems for their public speaking unit.
|
|
* A blackout poem is a piece of writing that is created through erasure. A writer takes a black marker and marks through entire words, sentences, and paragraphs in a found text. The words that they leave visible create a poem. (While the pictures above are rather small, if you look at the screen, this is what the students have been creating.)
