Apostle Islands Cruises, Inc. Will Offer
New Glass Bottom Boat and Shipwreck Tours in Bayfield

The staff at Apostle Island Cruises, Inc. in Bayfield, Wisconsin will be welcoming a new addition to their island excursion fleet this June, the Superior Princess. Wisconsin Department of Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett will be in Bayfield on June 19th for an official visit. She will take part in a christening ceremony for the Superior Princess at 3:00pm on the Bayfield City Dock. The ceremony will be followed by guided tours of the new cruise vessel.

Pictured is the Superior PrincessThe Superior Princess is unique from the other vessels in the Apostle Islands Cruises fleet as it is a glass bottom boat. Measuring 65 feet in length, the Superior Princess will have a passenger capacity of 150 people. It has two viewing wells (one on the port side and one on the starboard side) allowing guests to clearly view the lake bottom revealing history and lore lying below Lake Superior. This new vessel will allow a unique and exciting experience never before available in the Apostle Islands area.

Apostle Islands shipwreckApostle Islands Cruises provides a one-of-a-kind experience and offers the only cruise service to tour the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, an archipelago of 22 islands in Lake Superior, off of northern Wisconsin's Bayfield Peninsula. Guests can relax and enjoy as they are treated to multi-hour narrated cruises taking in stunning natural scenery, windswept beaches, historic lighthouses, rock formations, sea caves, marine wildlife, and shipwrecks. Cruise options include a Grand Tour, an Islander Cruise, an Evening Grand Tour, a Raspberry Island Lighthouse Tour, and dayhiker and camping shuttles. With the addition of the Superior Princess this summer, a new Glass Bottom Boat Tour will be added to this cruise schedule.

Apostle Islands National Lakeshore has more lighthouses than any other National Park Service area featuring eight historic towers on six islands, and was named "One of the Ten Best National Park Destinations" in 2005 by National Geographic Traveler Magazine. The waters around Bayfield and the Apostle Islands are also the resting place to many maritime catastrophes, like the Lucerne and the Sevona.

The Superior Princess was constructed in Wetumpka, Alabama by Bonner Boats. The boat has departed from its construction location and is en route on the 2,200 mile journey from Alabama to her new home in Bayfield, Wisconsin. It is expected to arrive in Bayfield around June 16th.
