Apostolic Nuncio to the United States Celebrates Mass for Board of Directors at Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
On Friday, the 15th of November 2019, His Excellency Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, was the Principle Celebrant and Homilist for Mass for the Board of Directors of the Foundation. The Mass was part of the Annual meeting of the Board held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Immaculate Conception.

As Apostolic Nuncio (Vatican Ambassador), Archbishop Pierre is Pope Francis' personal representative to the United States. His presence among the Board of Directors highlights the unique relationship that exists between Bethlehem University Foundation and the Vatican. The two Corporate Members of the Foundation are the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches and the Superior General of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Members of the Board of Directors must first be confirmed by the Vatican prior to assuming office. Archbishop Pierre joined the Board for lunch following the Celebration of the Eucharist.

The previous evening, Archbishop Pierre hosted the Bethlehem University Foundation at the Apostolic Nunciature (Vatican Embassy) for the Annual Awards Reception. With more than 150 in attendance, the Foundation honored The Most Reverend Gerald F. Kicanas, Bishop Emeritus of Tucson, with The Archbishop Pietro Sambi 'Star of Bethlehem' Award and The Northwestern Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem with the Pio Cardinal Laghi Founders Award . During the reception His Eminence Edwin Cardinal O'Brien, Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, was invested as an Honorary Patron of the Bethlehem University Foundation in celebration of his support for Bethlehem University and the Foundation.
