RESTORING FAIRNESS AND ACCOUNTABILITY
After nearly three years in the courts, we have the verdict from the California Apartment Association's case against Measure H. We scored important wins on Measure H's extreme overreach, such as the requirement to issue a "Notice to Cease" before being able post a 3 day notice to pay or quit.
However, despite Justice Segal's statement in the court room that "this is the most unfair, discriminatory rent stabilization board that I have ever seen", the court did not agree with our concerns about the inherently tenant-dominated rent board. This is surprising, after the recent Orange County ruling that Santa Ana's tenant-dominated rent board is unconstitutional.
Our recent professional survey shows very strong support for change among Pasadena's voters:
- The Rental Housing Board should have equal numbers of tenants and landlords
- The current tenant super-majority Rental Housing Board and Rent Stabilization Department just aren't working
We need to fix Measure H's overreach, and we can do this at the ballot box in November 2026.
Our 2026 ballot measure would:
- Create a fair rent board with equal number of tenants and landlords
- Promote the rental of single-family housing left empty because of Measure H
- Cap rent registry fees to halt unconstrained spending
- Improve accountability and reduce bureaucracy by fixing the broken Rent Stabilization Department model
- Retain protections for tenants around rent increases and unfair evictions.
Our committed group of volunteers and your financial support have brought us to this point. We now need to hire legal, political and marketing professionals to take us further.
