Lots of fall crops are back this week including spinach and Swiss chard - and they are both sooo good!

Two amazing apple varieties are coming your way this Saturday - Evercrisp and Ludacrisp! Plus many of your other favorite apples and pears.

Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and winter squashes are bountiful. And there are plenty of potatoes and onions for your soups, stews and pot roasts!

As leaves start to change so do our taste buds. It’s soup, stew and hearty vegetable season. Purple top turnips can be made mashed, roasted, into soups, or sprinkled with cheese. (check out this week’s recipe!)

Lots of other roots available this weekend at Cabbage Throw Farm including watermelon radishes, beets, carrots, hakurei, and red and French breakfast radishes. The sale on Baby Greens continues so you can keep tossing together baby kale, farmer mix, cress, spring mix, spinach and arugula. Kohlrabi, kale, collards, herbs, garlic and more will also be available. 

RECIPE

Turnips au Gratin
First slice turnips thin. Grease a baking dish and layer the turnip slices, overlapping the edges for a single layer. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme. Sprinkle with mozzarella, gruyere, and cheddar cheese along with a few bits of butter and heavy cream. Repeat this process with the remaining turnips and cheese. Finish the top layer with a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. 
Cover with tinfoil and Bake in the oven for 20. Remove the foil and bake for another 2-3 minutes until golden. Garnish with fresh herbs.

So this week, we're bringing to market the delicious Cock-a-leekie Chicken Pot Pie, with lots of chicken, leeks, and bacon in a silky gravy under Lisa's marvelous ruff puff pastry lid. You'll also find Aussie Dinner Pies, and a succulent Strudel with Sage Sausage, peppers, and mozzarella cheese for the win. Sweets offered will include Black Bottom Oatmeal Pie, a new Pumpkin Mousse Pie with Ginger-spiced crumb crust, Apple Pie, and Poached Pear Frangipane Tarts. Autumn really is amazing.

Since Larry Holmes Drive is closed to traffic during the market hours, you'll need to access the parking lots at Ferry & Second Streets (turn right off of Ferry St., just past the US Post Office), or via Green and Northampton Streets (turn at the Grand Eastonian Hotel). Signs are posted.
