PBS-NC's Most Popular Show Spotlights Hendersonville
Hendersonville was the star last week on “North Carolina Weekend.” The most-watched show on PBS-NC kicked off its 20th season by highlighting more than a half-dozen activities and attractions for visitors.
October is more than a time for pumpkins and harvests; it’s also time to plan those holiday getaways. Hendersonville’s annual “Home for the Holidays” celebration returns in early November and runs through New Year’s Day.
This year’s schedule features more events than ever, including carriage rides, greenery markets, a Christmas parade under the lights and the popular downtown tree lighting ceremony the day after Thanksgiving. Choose from cozy bed-and-breakfast inns, spacious vacation rentals or comfy hotels, and head to the Blue Ridge Mountains this holiday season.
Originally a 1950s gas station, a building on south Church Street reopened in September as Blue Ridge Beer Garden. The taproom has 25 beers and ciders on tap, plus an array of wine, seltzers and non-alcoholic options. Guests sip their selections at picnic tables in the open air with bistro lights, flowering planters and AstroTurf.
Food trucks make regular appearances, and live music takes place most weekends. The beer garden is also the new home of HVL Pedal and Brews, creating a convenient location for guests to board and unload from the pub cycle.
This year, fill stockings with more than two dozen wineries, breweries and cideries. The Cheers! Trail Passport is a guide to 25 Hendersonville tasting rooms. The passport is $10 and available online. Once a passport has been stamped at a dozen locations, it can be redeemed for Cheers! Trail swag.
