Ecker Fellows Program 2025-2026

Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute

WELCOMING APPLICATIONS

The Ecker Fellows Program at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute is currently seeking applications for its fourth cohort. This is an opportunity for three, early to mid-career professionals in the performing arts to engage with psychoanalytic ideas in a one-year, non-residential, virtual fellowship. Artists are paired with an Institute faculty mentor who acts as their advisor. This dyad also participates in a group seminar of these fellows, mentors, and the Program Director. The program’s purpose is to offer members of the creative community, interested in psychoanalytic concepts a way to enrich their artistic practices, through individually-tailored study and seminar meetings.

Ecker Fellows become Community Partners at BPSI, with access to its extensive library and public programming. Ecker Fellows and their mentors culminate the year in a “Meet the Artist” event for the community and will be encouraged to participate in BPSI’s spring graduation.

Expectations of the Program:

  • Four required, two-hour virtual seminar meetings, generally held on Friday afternoons EST, with required readings for each seminar.
  • Meetings with Faculty Mentors at a minimum of four times over the course of the Fellowship year.

To apply, please submit the following to BPSI, in care of EckerFellows@bpsi.org:

  • Brief cover letter stating your background and your interest in applying to the Ecker Fellows Program, addressed to the Ecker Fellows Program Director, Diane O’Donoghue, PhD.
  • A one-to-two-page description discussing how you would imagine a year of study of psychoanalysis would benefit your artistic practice. While not required, you may include noting any areas of specific psychoanalytic ideas, work, authors, or texts with which you have interest.
  • CV and personal website (if applicable).
  • Names and contact information of two professional references.

After review, selected applicants will be invited to interview. The cohort for 2025-2026 will be selected and notified in May 2025.
