Learn German in Germany

DAAD offers grants to faculty members in all academic fields (except German Studies, German Language and Literature, and German Translation and Interpretation) to attend intensive language courses at various Goethe-Institut locations in Germany. Four-week courses are offered year-round.  Apply by January 31st, 2019.

2018 J. William  Fulbright Prize  for International Understanding
Fulbright Prize Awarded to Dr. Angela Merkel

The 2018 J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding will be awarded to Dr. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, for her leadership and commitment to broader international cooperation. The ceremony will be held on January 28th in Berlin, the first time the Fulbright Association will host the event outside of the United States.

DeepL Outperforms Competition

DeepL, a Cologne-based startup, provides a translation tool that has outperformed big competitors in blind tests. DeepL, as the name suggests, uses deep learning technology to produce high quality translations in nine European languages. Though this is far fewer languages than some competitors, DeepL will be developing further with support from Silicon Valley.
