DAAD Young Ambassadors Program

The DAAD Young Ambassadors Program is an exciting opportunity for undergraduate and Master's students from North America who have recently studied or interned in Germany and are interested in promoting study in Germany at their home institutions.  Apply by April 15th, 2019.

German Studies Research Grant

This specialized DAAD program offers research grants to highly-qualified undergraduate and graduate students who are nominated by their department/program chairs. The grant may be used for short-term research (one to two months) in Germany.  Apply by May 1st, 2019.

Short-Term Research Grant

Short-Term Research Grants are awarded for 1-6 months to highly qualified candidates who will have completed a Master’s degree or Diploma, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor’s degree, by the time they begin their grant supported research, or to those who have already completed a PhD (postdocs).  Apply by May 1st, 2019.

2019 Annual DAAD Contest

In honor of the anniversary of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, we invite you to think about the concept of falling walls and crossing borders and share with us pictures that explore these themes and demonstrate how you have gone #BeyondBordersBeyondYourself. Submit pictures by April 28th, 2019.

Calling  talented scientists and entrepreneurs to pitch their cutting-  edge ideas and innovations at the Falling Walls Lab New York in May! The winner will receive airfare and accommodation at the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin in November. Due to the high number of last-minute applications, the deadline has been extended to April 14th, 2019.

The United States is currently hosting two correspondents - Backtosch Mustafa and Safin Ilyas - who are sharing their stories and adventures on their online profiles and via social media!

Wind Powers Germany

Wind power contributed a third of Germany's net electricity production in the month of March. This is a record high for the share of this renewable energy sources in Germany's power mix. Altogether, renewable energy sources contributed over half total power production in March. The German government has plans to bring the share of renewables in power production up to an annual average of 65% by 2030.

I would like to apply for the German Studies Research Grant. Do I need to have a certain level of German language skills?

Students are expected to have completed at least two years of college-level German at the time of nomination.

Fun Fact
Did you know...

...that April Fools, an April 1st tradition of playing good-natured jokes and pranks, is celebrated widely in Germany and the US? In fact, legend has it that April Fools has its origin in a meeting of lawmakers in Augsburg that was supposed to take place on April 1, 1530, to unify the state coinage . The meeting never took place and speculators who had tried to turn a quick profit lost their money and were ridiculed. This custom was later picked up by newspapers, magazines, and, now, digital media.

Universität Heidelberg Offers Scholarships 

Scholarships available to study at Heidelberg University : students enrolled at U.S. universities are invited to apply for the HAUS-Scholarship for Bachelor/Master Programs, or for a Scholarship for the International Summer School of German Language and Culture .
