1870 US Census Statistics on the German Population
In 1870, the Census Bureau conducted the ninth United States Census. Looking back at the data, the German population was of particular interest as one of the largest immigrant populations in the country. According to the census, the German-born German population was 1,690,146. For reference, the total population was close to 39 million.
