Latest Stats on International Students in Germany

In 2018, German higher education institutions hosted a total of almost 374,583 international students, far surpassing the 2020 goal of 350,000 students set by DAAD and the Joint Scientific Conference of the federal government and states (Gemeinsame Wissenschaftskonferenz). According to 2019 projections from the German Federal Statistical Office, this figure is set to increase by about 5%!

Studying Abroad
Destination Germany

Germany is the most popular non-English speaking country for students! According to the numbers from 2016, the most recent year for which comparable data is available, Germany, which hosted almost 252,000 students from abroad, follows right after the US, Great Britain, and Australia. Students come for a variety of reasons, including a high quality education and future job opportunities. The fact that most German states do not have a tuition fee is certainly another contributing factor.

You can still study in Germany even if you don’t know German, but even some knowledge of the language makes everyday life a lot easier and helps you immerse yourself in the country. Apart from that, foreign languages are also increasingly sought after by employers. There are many ways to learn German, many of which can be found on our website here .
