Faculty Research Stays

DAAD offers grants for one to three months to scholars at US and Canadian institutions of higher education to pursue research at universities, libraries, archives, institutes or laboratories in Germany. The aim of this program is to support short-term research stays and the exchange of experience and networking among colleagues.  Apply by May 15th, 2019.

Faculty members and advanced students in the humanities, social sciences and related fields are invited to apply for co-funding to organize workshops, seminars and conferences that embrace the interdisciplinary and/or comparative study of the history, politics, economics, law, society, culture and the arts of Germany.  Apply by  May 31st, 2019.

Today, the EU Delegation to the US and the Embassies of the 28 EU Member States will open their doors to the Washington, DC public for the EU Open House. Join DAAD at the German Embassy between 10am and 4pm during your travels across DC (and across the EU)!

Dance Performance and Technology

DAAD scholarship recipient Esther Manon Siddiquie will showcase her works created throughout her graduate studies at NYU. The evening will additionally showcase a collaboration brought to life by Kristen Foote, whose research examines the processes involved in dance reconstructing. The performance starts at 6:30PM on Tuesday, May 21st . Register here !

Tips on Learning German

Learning German, especially in the beginning, can be difficult. Ida Kahlo, who has been teaching German as a foreign language for 10 years and runs a YouTube channel called 24hDeutsch, has several tips for German language learners, such as using the correct article or preposition and getting started on using German every day.

eHighway Test Run

In an effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from trucks, Germany is testing a system developed by Siemens that allows trucks to draw electric power from overhead cables. The system went into operation on 6.2 miles of the Autobahn this week, the first such test on a public road in Germany.
