Applications Now Open for San Gabriel's HEAR Commission and Planning Commission

Interested parties should apply by December 31, 2022

San Gabriel, Calif. – Now through December 31, 2022, the City of San Gabriel is accepting applications for volunteer positions to serve on two of the city’s commissions.


Commissions help advise the City Council on several important matters, including the city’s development, beautification, and advancing equity, access and diversity and social justice. Commissioners are volunteer-based positions and do not receive any compensation.

Planning Commission

Positions available: 1

*Term ends May 31, 2023*

 

The Planning Commission consists of five members who consider applications for zone changes, subdivisions, variances, development plans and conditional use permits, in addition to other special applications. The Commission makes recommendations to the City Council concerning amendments to the General Plan, land use and zoning standards.


Commissioners must reside in the City of San Gabriel and be registered voters.


HEAR Commission

Positions available: 3

*Two-year term begins February 1, 2023 and ends January 31, 2025*


The HEAR Commission serves as an advisory body to the City Council and reports directly to the City Council to assess and recommend policies, procedures and activities in the City government to advance the Commission’s purpose. The purpose of the HEAR Commission is to advance and advocate for equity, access, diversity, social justice, safety, mutual appreciation, increased cultural competency, positive inter-group relations and respect for all members of the San Gabriel community.


At least five of the seven appointed commissioners must be residents of the City during their respective terms. Non-resident commissioners with backgrounds in academia; faith-based institutions or groups; nonprofit or community organizations; other government agencies, committees or commissions; or other fields or industries as directed by the City Council will be considered.
