Apply for SYEP 2025 Now!

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation’s largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer.


Younger Youth (ages 14-15):

  • Immersed in Project Based Learning (PBL) where their experience centers on Personal Well-being, Career Exploration, and Work Readiness.
  • Engaged in a hybrid PBL model where there will be in person and virtual activities
  • Engage in this experience for approximately 12.5 hours per week for 6 weeks. 
  • Youth can earn up to $700 for this entire experience.

Older Youth (ages 16-24):

  • Will have the opportunity to work across multitude of sectors.
  • Gain valuable hands-on experience, help them build workplace skills, and explore potential career paths.
  • Participants can work for up to 25 hours a week at the NYC minimum wage of $16.50 per hour. The 6 week total hours that can be worked is 150 hours.


Eligibility criteria for the program:

  • Be a New York City Resident
  • Be legally allowed to work in New York City and in the United States
  • Be of age for the respective cohorts mentioned on July 1st.

Application Instructions


After you filling out your information on the SYEP Application, you want to choose New York Center for Interpersonal Development as your SYEP Primary Provider. In order to do so, you must:

  1. Click on the line that says "Click here to select Primary Provider".
  2. On the next page, in the PROVIDER NAME box, search for "New York Center" and click Search.
  3. Scroll down under the map and click on "New York Center for Interpersonal Development" - NOTE that we have jobs available in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island!
  4. On the next page, you can read the information on the page, but after click on "Select Provider"
  5. On the next page click on "Confirm Provider"
  6. You must choose an alternate provider as well. Choose any provider that is near to your home address as your alternate provider. Then repeat steps 4 and 5
  7. Click "Submit Application" and follow all steps to submit.
  8. Your application is not submitted until you have confirmed your Social Security Number and Date of Birth and click "I Agree"

Enrollment Information

Finished Applying? Great! Enrollment will take place soon after the application deadline. We will be in touch towards the application deadline, which is the end of March, regarding enrollment. In the meantime, please look at the Document Checklists below to start collecting your documents. Please click on the appropriate age group for your checklist.

If you need to apply for new documents, please do so ASAP! Some of you will need to obtain a photo ID, working papers, and other documents. Don't wait to collect these!
