The Ongoing Impacts of SEMAC-Funded Projects

We are catching up with previous grant recipients to learn about the lasting impacts of their funded projects. By reconnecting with these individuals and organizations, we aim to share how our grants have benefited artists and their communities. This month, we feature Engage Winona's Creative Community Leaders Program.

From left to right a woman with dark curly hair and glasses in a gray striped top a blonde woman in black with a cross necklace a woman in a dark sweatshirt with cursive text a young woman in a gray hoodie and jeans and a woman with glasses in a red patterned blouse. What happens when you give emerging community leaders modest funding, skilled coaching, and the freedom to address local challenges through creative expression? Engage Winona's Creative Community Leaders program demonstrates that sometimes the most powerful community change emerges not from grand initiatives, but from residents who are trusted to identify their own community's needs and empowered to address them authentically. This impact story explores how four participants transformed both their own sense of civic agency and their community's understanding of what leadership can look like.
