Committees Overview:

COR Stakeholder Advisory Committee:

Formed in response to concerns about the COR program in Ontario.
ECAO instrumental in creating a COR Advisory Group meeting quarterly with IHSA and stakeholders.
Establishing an internal ECAO COR Stakeholder Advisory Committee.
Seeking members’ representatives who are (i) active health and safety professionals, (ii) COR program administrators, (iii) or those becoming COR certified.
Anticipated to be a relatively small committee, initially meeting quarterly.
Aim for a diverse mix of contractor sizes and sectors.
Responsibilities include reviewing IHSA COR Stakeholder group meetings, advising ECAO’s input at IHSA COR Stakeholders Group meetings, and ongoing review of the Province’s COR program with suggestions for improvement.

International & Extra-Provincial Committee:

Identified opportunities for contractors outside Ontario and joint ventures with extra-provincial contractors.
ECAO's membership with NECA highlights significant possibilities.
Seeking input from members on (i) niche markets, (ii) sectors/types of work of interest, (iii) requirements to work outside Ontario, and (iv) updates on opportunities.
Anticipated quarterly meetings for representatives interested in pursuing these opportunities.

Education Committee:

With the recent release of the ECAO Learning Centre, a need arises to expand educational programs for members and their employees.
Formation of the Education Committee to provide guidance, suggestions, and assess ECAO’s educational offerings.
Particularly interested in expressions of interest from members’ representatives involved in education.
Expected to meet quarterly.

Member Services Committee:

ECAO aims to revitalize a committee for contractor members to provide feedback on the value-added benefits of membership.
Membership Services committee seeks insights and feedback on ECAO’s services.
Discussions on future opportunities to define and refine a robust program.
Anticipated quarterly meetings.

Apply for 2024 DJB Wright Award!

It is that time of year again where we look to celebrate one of our own for their significant contributions to the ECAO and the electrical contracting industry.

Past recipients were recognized for their commitment to the work of the giving back of their own time to volunteer on numerous industry committees and contributions to their respective local communities.

If you wish to honour one of your members, please find the attached 2024 application or please let me know if I can be of any help in pulling together an application for someone you feel is eligible for this prestigious award.

ECAO will be honouring the 2024 recipient in-person at our ECAO Annual General Meeting in Etobicoke on June 06^th. The due date to submit the application is April 05, 2024.

ECAO 2024 Safety Awards Application: Now Open!!

The ECAO is pleased to announce the R. Hugh Carroll Safety Awards will now be a featured event at our 2024 Annual General Meeting at Woodbine Racetrack. This exciting change further raises the profile of the R. Hugh Carroll Safety Awards, demonstrating the ECAO’s commitment to promoting and fostering a positive, safety first culture amongst its membership, and the electrical industry.

There are changes to the 2024 R. Hugh Carroll application we wish to communicate, allowing applicants to submit exemplary applications worthy of the prominence of recognition at the ECAO’s Annual General Meeting at Woodbine Racetrack on June 06th.

For 2024, the R. Hugh Carroll Safety Award categories have been restructured according to company size and only size (see below), elevating the R. Hugh Carroll Safety Awards by recognizing and promoting the absolute best of the best, those who put safety first! Also, for 2024 we are including guidelines for completing the application and a grading rubric that will be used to evaluate submissions by the panel.

Companies with fewer than twenty (20) employees/workers

Companies with between twenty (20) and one hundred (100) employees/workers

Companies with between one-hundred (100) and two hundred and fifty (250) employees/workers

Companies with over two-hundred and fifty (250+) employees/workers

CCDC seminars coming this spring: Register Now

With so many new construction documents soon-to-be or already released, the Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC) is thrilled to be hosting their first in-person seminars since the pandemic. Delivered across Canada between April 29 and May 17 by the authors themselves, attendees will be guided on the use and application of the following new documents.

ELECTRI's New Research Projects

At its recent meeting, the ELECTRI Council reviewed research proposals for projects recommended by the Program Review Committee as essential to the electrical construction industry. After discussions on the merits and methodologies for each project, the Council voted to accept six new research and education initiatives for 2024.

ELECTRI provides each researcher with a Task Force of industry leaders. Please consider volunteering to serve on one of the Task Forces for the 2024 research portfolio. Task force members are asked to attend monthly meetings with the researcher and to offer their EC expertise for the research. It is only with the help of our Council that we can help craft relevant research. You may also suggest joining a task force to those in your company with relevant experience.
