Apply for the Edward M. Armfield, Sr. Foundation Scholarship

The Edward M. Armfield, Sr. Foundation has extended its reach to benefit students who are entering Surry Community College for Fall 2024, in addition to those planning to attend a four year college or university. The deadline for scholarship application is February 29, 2024. For more information, read the full article at surry.edu.

Forty-eight students were awarded scholarships by the Edward M. Armfield, Sr. Foundation in 2023. These scholarships, over a four-year period, contributed $913,000 to the educational pursuits of the scholars.

Register Now for Mid-Term Classes

Surry Community College is registering students for Mid-Term courses.

Mid-Term courses will begin on March 13, 2024. A list of all Mid-Term classes being offered for this semester is available at surry.edu.

Students may enter the classes they wish to take into Student Planning for approval.

Donate to the Samaritan's Purse Donation Drive

Phi Theta Kappa will be collecting empty medicine bottles for the Samaritan's Purse Disaster Relief.

Anyone interested in donating can place their bottles in the yellow PTK box located in the English Department office. Donations will be accept throughout the semester/

Prior to donation, the labels must be removed from the bottle. The bottles must also be completely empty and washed out,.

Join us for Lees-McRae Day

On Tuesday, February 27th, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm in the Knights Grill, representatives from Lees-McRae College will be set up for you to ask questions and get to know more about the college.

This will be a great opportunity to:
  • Learn about the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs offered at Lees-McRae College.
  • Ask questions about campus life and the student experience, clubs, student activities, athletics, and life in the high country.
  • Discuss Scholarships and other Financial Aid opportunities.
  • Set up appointments to meet with LMC Financial Aid representatives.
  • Get help filling out an application to Lees-McRae College.
  • Receive an On-the-Spot Admissions decision (after completing an application and providing your college transcripts).
  • Request a Transfer Credit Evaluation to know how much school you would have remaining at Lees-McRae College.

Join a Trail Work Session

Trail Club will have a trail work session on Thursday, March 14th at 2pm. They will meet at the Gazebo across from the tennis courts/little pantry. All are welcome!

Students should wear comfortable work wear, including closed toe shoes. Students may also bring work gloves if they have them. The group will work for an hour on clearing the trail.

Join our Digital Media and Graphic Design Program

Apply for courses within the Digital Media and Graphic Design program today! Earn a certificate, degree, and/or diploma. Online learning with 8 week courses.

The Digital Media program prepares students for entry-level jobs in the digital design and multimedia industry. Students learn to synthesize multimedia, hypertext, computer programming, information architecture, and client/server technologies using both Internet and non-network-based media.

Students develop skills in communication, critical thinking, and problem solving as well as interface design, multimedia formats, application programming, data architecture, and client/server technologies. The program develops technical skills through practical applications that employ current and emerging standards and technologies.

Register for Nature Hiking

Do cold, wet, dreary days have you feeling down? Are you looking forward to warmer days and getting out to enjoy nature this spring? If so, our mid-semester Nature Hiking Course is just for you! The class includes field trips to local hiking trails and state parks.

Instruction will be provided on how to equip and care for oneself on the trail. Topics include clothing, hygiene, trail ethics, and necessary equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to successfully participate in nature trail hikes. This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA and ICAA as a pre-major/elective course.

The class begins March 13, 2024, and runs through May 10, 2024. Come out and enjoy our local hiking trails and other fascinating places!

Spring Payment Plan Available

For mid term courses, the payment plan will open on March 1, 2024, and will close on March 12, 2024, at 6 p.m. Half of the tuition and fees will be due at enrollment and the other half will be due in April.

Nelnet is the company that handles the payment plan for SCC. They charge a one time enrollment fee of $30.

24/7 Paper Drop-Off Service 
 
Are you struggling on your paper? We can help! The Academic Support Center is offering free, 24/7 paper review drop-off through the Tutor.com service in Moodle. 
 
Click on the Tutor.com link in your Moodle course, click the "Drop Off Your Work" tab on the top, and upload your paper for a writing review. The reviewed paper will be returned to your SCC email within 12 hours.

As always, live writing help is available in person at the Writing Lab (R-209) or in the Online Writing Lab Team during normal business hours or through the Tutor.com link in Moodle (24/7).

The Knights Grill offers a full breakfast daily with multiple plate specials and “grab and go” items along with a full grill side with numerous selections and Hunt Brothers pizza by the hunk or a whole pizza. The grill also has a full salad bar. Assorted desserts are available throughout the week.
