Apply Now for PC(USA) Vital Congregations Program | |
The Office of Vital Congregations is accepting applications for the 5th Wave of the Vital Congregations Initiative. This program helps congregations assess, discern, and live into transformative actions that increase vitality. Through intentional spiritual practices and relational connections, this two-year process takes participants deeper into following Jesus Christ, making disciples, and being the vital community of Christ. The application deadline is Nov. 15. Selected churches will be notified by Jan. 31, 2023. Kickoff and training will begin in the spring of 2023. | |

End-of-life Study Group for Older Adult Ministry Leaders | Leaders of older adult ministries are invited to join a five-week online study group on end-of-life challenges. Learn how to help congregation members make faithful decisions about this time in life. The small, coach-facilitated study group will meet in 90-minute sessions beginning October 13 at 3:30 p.m. Registration ends September 30. | |

Annual Food Action Week Starts October 10 | People and Planet First is the theme of the 2022 Global Food Week of Action, October 10-17. This means prioritizing family farmers, fishers, and others producing in harmony with nature – agroecologically – and achieving food sovereignty. As communities continue to face the pandemic and vulnerable food chains, we realize the necessity of building resilient agricultural systems that protect and cool the planet and put farmers and workers first. This year’s Food Week will highlight groups and initiatives that are building an equitable and sustainable food systems, while also tackling the economic and racial drivers of hunger, poverty, and oppression. | |
A group supported by the presbytery’s Public Policy Witness Ministry participated in the Charlottesville Back to School Bash on August 20. Members of the Charlottesville Coalition for Gun Violence Prevention handed out literature on safe gun storage and distributed gun locks provided by the local police to adults. Children received orange gunsafety bracelets and peace dove tattoos. | |
