Black History Month Display: Feb. 12 & 13
In recognition of Black History Month and in conjunction with the college's Global Competence Committee, Emily Workman's COM-231 (Public Speaking) classes created informative posters about often forgotten people, places, and events in Black History. The posters will be on display in the library on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 12 and 13. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to come and learn more from the students' work.

Apply to Graduate by April 1
Just like you had to apply to start at Surry, you have to apply to graduate!
If you plan to graduate this semester or next, meet with your faculty advisor to make sure you are on track! Even if you do not plan to participate in the spring ceremony, a graduation application must be completed. You can find this application by going to your myKnightLife, and clicking "Graduation Application" under "Quick Links" and "Resources."
The deadline to apply to graduate for the 2025 Spring semester is Tuesday, April 1. Applications received after these cutoffs will not be accepted, and your graduation will be deferred to a later term.

PTK Induction Ceremony: February 21
Phi Theta Kappa is hosting an induction ceremony on Friday, Feb. 21 in the Grand Hall of the Shelton-Badgett NC Center for Viticulture & Enology on SCC's Dobson campus from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
PTK members, family, and friends are invited to attend to celebrate the students' academic achievements.
Line-up, practice, and photos will occur at 12:30 p.m. The ceremony will start at 1:00 p.m. A light reception will follow the ceremony.

Samaritan's Purse Donation Drive
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) will be collecting empty medicine bottles for the Samaritan's Purse Disaster Relief.
For those interested in donating, look out for the yellow PTK box located in the English Department. Donations will be accepted for the entirety of the spring semester.
Prior to donating, be sure that all labels are removed from the medicine bottles. Bottles must also be completely empty and washed out.

Pack the Convoy: Donate to Troops
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is hosting a drive to donate care packages to troops. You may donate snacks, hygiene items, or letters.
Examples of donations include cookies, crackers, granola bars, candy bars, dried fruits, beef jerky, protein mixer bottles, packets of flavored coffee and tea, deodorant, sunscreen, chapstick, soap, feminine products, letters, cards, magazines, and AA/AAA batteries.
Items may be dropped off in the yellow boxes located in the Knights Grill, library, and the English department from now until May.

Blood Drive Hosted by PTK: March 1
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) will be hosting a blood drive on Saturday, March 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. located at Francisco Community Bldg. 7104 NC 89 Hwy W. Westfield.
PTK is looking for volunteers, and snack and blood donations.
Snack donations may be dropped off in the yellow boxes located in the Knights Grill, library, and English department.
To volunteer, arrive at the venue at 9:30 a.m.

Armfield Scholarships: Apply Now
The deadline to apply for the Edward M. Armfield, Sr. Foundation Scholarship Program is February, 28, 2025. The scholarship awards vary and are based on financial need. To apply, visit armfieldscholars.communityforce.com.
Since its inception in 1999, The Edward M. Armfield, Sr. Foundation has awarded millions of dollars in scholarships to deserving students. Last year, more than 50 Surry County students benefited from this scholarship program.

Register for Mid-Term Classes
Students may now register for Spring Mid-Term classes. Classes begin March 7, 2025. Please be aware that some classes may start earlier than March 7. Check the class schedule to confirm start date.
Newly added mid-term classes include American History II (HIS-132-HY30), Music Appreciation (MUS-110-HY30), General Psychology (PSY-150-HY30), and Introduction to Sociology (SOC-210-HY30).
Current students may enter courses into Student Planning for approval.

Knights Grill
The Knights Grill offers a full breakfast daily with multiple plate specials and “grab and go” items along with a full grill side with numerous selections and Hunt Brothers pizza by the hunk or a whole pizza. The grill also has a full salad bar. Assorted desserts are available throughout the week.
