Is your property a historic landmark or located in one of the city’s designated historic districts? Apply to receive an economic incentive through the Mills Act Property Tax Abatement Program (Mills Act)!

The City recently announced the return of the Mills Act, which was temporarily paused in 2020, and is now accepting applications.

Historic homeowners and owners of historic commercial properties are invited to attend two upcoming workshops to learn about Mills Act eligibility and requirements.

Pre-Application Workshop
Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, 10 a.m. to noon
Jordan High School (Auditorium), 6500 Atlantic Ave.

Application Workshop
Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, 10 a.m. to noon
Long Beach Energy Resources Department (Auditorium), 2400 E. Spring St.

All potential applicants or their representatives must attend both workshops to be eligible. Spanish and Khmer interpretation will be available.

The deadline to submit the completed Mills Act application package is 4 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2023.

About Mills Act
The Mills Act is a state program that is administered and implemented by local governments. Under Mills Act contracts, private property owners receive tax benefits in exchange for proper maintenance and preservation of the historical and architectural character of their property for an initial 10-year term. The Mills Act is especially beneficial for recent buyers of historic sites, or owners who may have recently had a property transfer or tax re-assessment.
