Appointment of Commissioner Mondaire Jones by Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
Washington, DC -- On January 18, 2023, Mondaire Jones was officially sworn in as a Commissioner of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights by Staff Director Mauro Morales. Rep. Nancy Pelosi appointed former Congressman Mondaire Jones as a Commissioner of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Please see the Congressional Record announcing the appointments.
Mondaire Jones is a former Congressman for New York’s 17th District, encompassing parts of the Hudson Valley. As a member of the House Judiciary Committee, Mr. Jones championed civil rights, voting rights, democracy, and Supreme Court reform. In the 117th Congress, Mr. Jones served as the youngest member of House leadership and was named by Axios as the most legislatively active freshman member of Congress. He made history when elected as the nation’s first openly gay, Black member of Congress.
