Appraising Man-made Diamonds
as values continue towards the bottom.
Insurance replacement appraisals for man-made diamond jewelry are based upon the current replacement cost.
But while mined diamond prices tend to go up every year, man-made diamond prices tend to go down.
Updates are encouraged. Otherwise, the client may be paying the original insurance premiums for a diamond that is now worth less.

Laboratory Color Nomenclature in Question
Is it Gem Science or Marketing?
It has been a while since I have written a personal note.
Richard Hughes, director of Lotus Gemology in Bangkok, has written a feature story for the GemGuide, (subscription only,) titled “Describing Color: A Fool’s Guide,” that questions the non-gemological name calling by many of the professional gemological laboratories.
I could not agree more!

Women @ the Met
Who Wore What at the 2023 Met Gala?
Fashion forward and dripping with jewels, the women at the 2023 Met Gala were the focal point. And all eyes and cameras were on Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Dua Lipa, both wearing fabulous diamond necklaces; Priyanka sporting the 11-carat Bvlgari Blu, and Dua going "Ocean's 8" large, with Tiffany's 100+ carat center, and another 100 carats simply to hang on.

Greenwashing – a recommendation
Over the past several months, we’ve been reading published articles that speak to the problems of "greenwashing" in our industry, those who would embellish the realities of a supply chain that is hardly transparent, which makes it nearly impossible to make or prove claims of “ethical,” “responsible,” and “conflict-free.” And yet they do.
Yesterday's press release shows us that AGTA and its members are taking the bull by the horns, and actually doing something about it.
