The Workforce Development Board Welcomes New Regional Apprenticeship Development and Readiness (RADAR) Grant Project Case Manager Brianne Nobile
A little about Brianne:
"My name is Brianne Nobile and I come to the Workforce Development Board with eagerness to help those who are in need.
"I attended Herkimer County Community College to pursue a Human Services Associates degree after graduating high school.
"After college I wasn’t sure where I wanted to start my journey, shortly after I was offered a position in banking at First Source Federal Credit Union. I was employed there the last five years which allowed me to learn and gain a lot of knowledge.
"However, I knew my purpose there was coming to an end so I began looking for opportunities elsewhere that would not only better serve me but, would also allow me to better serve individuals by entering a career in Human Services.
"I also volunteer every year to be a part of my friends haunted attraction, Crooked Descent Horror, as an actress. In my free time I enjoy being outside in the sun, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and listening to music.
"Growing up I have always had a helping and caring nature, which is why I truly believe my purpose is to help individuals who are in need of any support.
"I am filled with excitement to be a part of the Workforce Development Board and to be able to pursue a career where the goal is to genuinely help individuals succeed in life. I cannot wait to see where this new journey takes me all while doing something I wholeheartedly love and value."
Welcome, Brianne!!

Real-Life Rosies Visit Giotto Enterprises
The Workforce Development Board, in partnership with MVCC and MACNY, recently took part in a company tour.
Prior to graduating, on August 23rd participants in Real Life Rosies Cohort 2 had the pleasure of visiting Giotto Enterprises, a group of seven companies united by common ownership, which provides consistent manufacturing leadership, quality, and value for the fiber-optic industry. Established in 1985 and located in Oriskany, NY, Giotto has been a wonderful partner in providing opportunities for local individuals interested in joining the Manufacturing Industry.
As Cohort 2 prepared for graduation, we are fortunate that all of the students have had the opportunity to get the inside scoop on what would be like to work in the Manufacturing industry. Our hope is to continue our successes as we begin to enroll for Cohort 3 and provide more opportunities for both employers and job seekers in the Manufacturing industry.

Manufacturing Businesses: Do you need help
upskilling your Workforce?
| |
The Workforce Development Board of Herkimer, Madison & Oneida (WDB/HMO) has partnered with the NYCAN (NY College Apprenticeship Network) grant to reimburse on-the-job training costs for advanced manufacturing companies that have less than 50 employees and a registered apprentice program.
Wages can be reimbursed at 50% up to $25 an hour for six months of on-the-job training (OJT) with minimum paperwork.
The undirected funding provides many benefits for small to medium-sized manufacturing companies and ensures the apprentice is trained in accordance with the company’s standards and procedures.
If you would like to know how your company can take advantage of this funding or know of a company that would benefit, please contact Alice Savino at asavino@working-solutions.org

RADAR Grant Staff Visit the Carpenters Union Training Center
In July, RADAR Grant Project Director Sommer Edwards and Case Managers Sarah Roby and Paula Ford were invited to the Carpenters Union training center in Syracuse, NY.
"We are fortunate to have built a strong relationship with the Carpenters Union over the past two years as they continue to play a large role in our ability to train and retain workers in quality Pre-Apprenticeship and Registered Apprenticeship programs," says Ms. Edwards.
"Union representative, Marie Weiss and her counterpart Jennifer Jones gave our staff a tour of their training facility and graciously set the time aside to get down to the bones of what it means to be a Union member. We are so excited to continue educating job seekers on the opportunities available to them in the Trades."

The RADAR grant program is available in the following counties: Onondaga, Cortland, Oneida, Madison, Chenango, Herkimer, Otsego, Delaware, Fulton, Montgomery, or Schoharie.

Success: The Workforce Development Board's Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations
(WANTO) Grant Wrap-Up
The Workforce Development Board's Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant officially came to a close on June 30, 2023.
WANTO was an Apprenticeship program that served women 18+, interested in a nontraditional occupation, across a 17-county region.
Despite being awarded this program during the peak of COVID, WANTO staff thoroughly enjoyed breaking down barriers and advocating for women interested in exploring nontraditional career fields such as the Trades, Advanced Manufacturing, IT/Cybersecurity, Public Safety, Transportation, Agriculture, and more.
Against the odds, WANTO exceeded its enrollment goal of 200 participants and completed the program having served 318 women. In addition, WANTO overcame its Pre-Apprenticeship goal of 200 participants and successfully enrolled 293 women in training.
At this time, 122 women have obtained a career within a non-traditional occupation, and 19 started a Registered Apprenticeship. The Workforce Development Board has continued to follow up with WANTO enrollees and looks forward to matching the remaining women with employment opportunities in their fields of interest.
Watch Crystal's Story - Carpenters' Union
WANTO’s final success story includes its partnership with the Women in Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship program developed in collaboration with Mohawk Valley Community College and MACNY.
The program enrolled its first cohort in May and its second cohort in June. As a result, 25 women were accepted into the Pre-Apprenticeship program.
These women gained crucial skills needed for employment through hands-on learning and soft-skill development. Students had the opportunity to go on three tours of local Manufacturing companies, as well as participate in an interview day at the end of their program, gaining employment with one of our employer partners.
Despite WANTO's ending, the Workforce Development Board is fortunate to have built strong relations with its partners who will continue to sustain WANTO’s goals of training and employing women in nontraditional fields and expanding registered Apprenticeships. As a result, the Women in Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship program will enroll Cohort 3 in September.
Although we are sad to see WANTO end, we are excited to continue its efforts within The Workforce Development Boards Regional Apprenticeship Development and Readiness (RADAR) grant.
Serving both men and women 18+, interested in Apprenticeship, across an 11-county region. We are one year into our four-year program, and already exceeding expectations. RADAR staff looks forward to carrying out the goals of expanding opportunities for Apprenticeship, and are excited to be at the forefront of new and emerging Apprenticeship opportunities throughout Central NY.
If you or someone you know is looking for training or employment within a registered Apprenticeship program, go to radarjoin.com to enroll today. If you are a business looking to learn more about what services are available to maintain or create a new Apprenticeship, please reach out to Program Director, Sommer Edwards at sedward@working-solutions.org.
