Validate Your Provider Practice Information by April 17

All Nova Scotia Health providers are required to access an online tool to validate the OPOR Provider Dictionary by April 17. This is necessary to ensure their in-CIS position (specialty) is accurate and to confirm any off-site location information is current. You need to use your Nova Scotia Health login to do this. 

Accurate practice locations in the OPOR Provider Dictionary are essential to ensure providers receive complete, up-to-date results and reports in the right place and at the right time. If practice information is outdated or incorrect, it may result in delayed or missing clinical information, misdirected communications, or reporting inaccuracies that can impact patient care and workflow. Correct flow from OPOR to community faxes or EMRs depends on the correct provider and location is selected at the time of registration. Having unnecessary locations in the dictionary increases the likelihood of errors occurring at registration. 

Community providers are responsible for keeping their practice details current, including location and contact information. There is an existing pathway where clinicians in the community can update their content via the Physician Portal. Additionally, Nova Scotia Health teams will be reaching out to community providers from now until April 17 to actively validate this information.  

Provider Readiness Hubs Are Now Open

Provider Readiness Hubs are now available across Central Zone, offering flexible, drop-in opportunities to continue building confidence ahead of Go-Live. These self-directed spaces allow providers to practice workflows, explore the CIS and connect with Provider Peer Mentors and the Provider Adoption Team. They’re also a great opportunity to complete personalization in the live domain and reinforce learning in a hands-on environment.

Reminder: Wave Two learning and practice opportunities 

If you’re part of Wave Two and haven’t yet registered, it is critically important that you visit the OPOR Hub’s Training Registration Portal and register now. Remember: CIS training = CIS access. Training must be completed to receive access before Go-Live. 


Virtual Practice Labs are available daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. until May 8, 2026, offering a flexible, self-paced way to practice workflows in a supportive environment. Register here. 


You can also revisit workflows and key resources anytime on the OPOR Provider Corner. The Provider Education and Learning pages are a quick way to find information tailored to your practice area.

Family physicians and nurse practitioners who do not provide non-primary care within a Nova Scotia Health or IWK Health facility are not included in CIS training and will continue to have view-only access through the Provider Portal. 

There’s still time to share your feedback: Change Readiness Survey 

As we move closer to Go-Live, there’s still time to share how prepared you’re feeling. Providers participating in Wave Two are encouraged to complete the Change Readiness Survey. The survey is quick, anonymous and open until Sunday, April 12. 

Access to the OPOR Hub, including all links above, requires active Nova Scotia Health or IWK Health network credentials. This communication is intended for Nova Scotia Health providers, clinicians and staff in relation to OPOR.

Novari ATC & MIRM Training: CZ Surgeons, Gastroenterologists, Radiologists & Residents

Required Novari MIRM and ATC training is underway to support OPOR-CIS Wave Two implementation on May 9, 2026. This applies to Nova Scotia Health Central Zone only. 

Novari ATC will support surgical and procedure waitlist management, while Novari MIRM will introduce additional workflow steps for diagnostic imaging teams.

Training applies to:


• ATC: Surgeons, gastroenterologists & provider administration. Learn more.

Out of Province and Out of Country Medical Referrals

Written pre-approval from the MSI Medical Consultant is required before referring a patient for medical services outside Nova Scotia, if the patient is to be considered for coverage under the Nova Scotia Health Insurance Program and financial assistance with travel and accommodation.

Referrals must be completed by an appropriate referring physician, defined as a Nova Scotia physician who is treating the patient and has a relevant specialty for the requested service.

Pre-approval applies only to the specific service(s) and facility authorized. Approval must be obtained before arranging care and making any financial commitments. Service(s) must be received within the approved time period. If additional services or an extension is needed, the referring Nova Scotia physician must submit a new request.

Grief Education Series for Physicians: Honouring Your Grief and the Grief of Others – Sarah Burm, PhD and Matt Fillier

This session, part of the Grief Education Series for Physicians, explores culturally responsive and ethically grounded approaches to honouring grief in diverse healthcare teams, settings and communities. Participants will develop strategies for creating space for grief in clinical practice and organizational culture.
