Cholla District Weekly Update

April 9, 2026

Dear Cholla Residents,

Last weekend's Shred Event at Foothills Library parking lot was a great success. We were able to fill 3 large trucks with shredded paper from residents around the city. I received some good feedback from residents that the event was well-organized with good traffic flow, as we worked to transport boxes of paper from vehicles to bins and shred trucks. The Fire Department was also on site to collect batteries and hand out information about battery safety and disposal to residents. I want to thank the Glendale Police and Fire Departments for their participation and assistance, as well as youth volunteers from the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council and Glendale PD Explorer Youth for helping transport paper from vehicles to bins during the event.

Yesterday, I hosted the 4th annual Public Safety Appreciation Day, providing lunch to over 300 on-duty Glendale Police and Fire personnel from Babbo Italian Eatery. This is just a small way to show appreciation to these committed men and women who serve our community each and every day. While I plan to share a little more detail and a video from the event in next week's newsletter, here are just a few photos that were taken.

Don't forget to register for the Cholla District Public Safety District Meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 7 at 5 PM at the Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center open to all residents within the Cholla District. Come and enjoy complimentary hot dogs, hamburgers, snacks, and drinks at 5 PM. At 5:30 PM, you will have the opportunity to participate in interactive mini sessions provided by Glendale Police, Fire, and Emergency Management staff on a variety of public safety topics. After the sessions end, residents will participate in drawings to win tickets to various upcoming events at Desert Diamond Arena in the city suite, as well as other items. See the flyer at the top of this newsletter for all the details. Register online on or before April 27.

My office is always open and ready to assist you. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns that you may have. I value your input and opinion.

Warm Regards,

Lauren Tolmachoff

ROAD CONSTRUCTION & TRAFFIC ALERTS

From Councilmember Tolmachoff:
I recognize the frustrations with the light timing for the left turn lane both at 67th Avenue and 75th Avenue to access southbound Loop 101/Beardsley frontage road. After reaching out to ADOT to examine the light timing in this area last week, I was notified that ADOT has added an additional 5 seconds to the southbound and southbound left-turn phases at these intersections. This is the maximum time capacity for these movements. Pedestrian movements also impact the overall cycle.
