If there is one word to describe the feeling in the LOLA office right now, it’s EXCITED. We are so EXCITED for our Summer Arts Venture, over ten weeks of fun, sharing, and connecting with nature, offering classes and workshops in Art, Music, Dance, Theater, and Poetry. While we still have a small amount of classes and groups in the building throughout the winter/spring season, we are thrilled to once again fill our classrooms during the week, EXCITED to see old friends, EXCITED about all the new people we will meet, EXCITED to see the beautiful things that will be created, and EXCITED to invite the community to some really wonderful events. We hope you are as EXCITED as us with our Summer Arts Venture!

Scott Stafford, Creative Movement Dancer, and Teacher Visits LOLA!
Scott visited LOLA for a snowy week at the end of March. Stafford, from St Paul, MN, is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher, whose work has taken him around the world. He spent his week at LOLA workshopping creative movement at Land O Lakes Elementary and Watersmeet K12 schools, teaching students to express themselves through movement. He also taught a gentle seated movement class, both at LOLA and Milestone in Eagle River, giving those who may not be able to stand and dance long another way to move and shake and show emotion through movement. We would like to thank the Guinn Family for their generous donation that allowed this residency to take place.

LOLA gets ready for Sound Garden with April Residency
James Everest, a Minneapolis-based musician, and composer wrapped up an artist residency. James is known for his Sound Gardens, a site-specific music installation that combines the sounds of the surrounding nature with 25+ small speakers, hidden in art objects, like flower pots or birdhouses, creating a trail through the woods, leading participants through different musical sounds.
Everest spent the week of April 11th-15th at LOLA, traveling to the Watersmeet K-12 and SOAR Charter MS school, creating a variety of art pieces that will be displayed in the Sound Garden in June. He also held poetry and music workshops with middle school students. James spent a day at LOLA with five students, two from LOLA’s homeschool art classes, and three from SOAR, painting benches that will be used throughout the park. A big thank you to board member Mike McAdams, for making and donating the Leopold benches.
