4th Annual Gala Nets $102,000

With food, entertainment and more than 125 auction packages, the Iowa 4-H Foundation's Fourth Annual Gala, presented by John Deere, raised $102,000 to support the Iowa 4-H program statewide and at the club level. Even some 4-H youth played a role in reaching this amount, which was nearly $19,000 more than the 2012 gala total.

"This year our auction included items donated by 15 Iowa 4-H members, which raised $2,145. Fifty percent of the proceeds from those items will be given to the members' choice of their 4-H clubs or county endowment," said Kris Fish Kuhlmann, executive director for the Iowa 4-H Foundation. The 4-H Foundation also collaborated with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Polk County to raise funds for the Polk County 4-H Endowment Fund. Read more>>

4-H Camp Update
The mission of the Iowa 4-H Foundation is to provide financial resources to Iowa youth by raising funds for 4-H programs as needs are defined by ISU Extension & Outreach (ISUEO). As such, we were in the process of partnering with them to identify current needs when issues about the future of 4-H camping programs at the Iowa 4-H Center arose. We have reached out to ISUEO and held a meeting in early March to discuss the situation in detail.
As the result, there are several positive outcomes. All previously scheduled county and regional camps well be held as arranged. Additional county and regional camps will also be scheduled as the calendar and county support can manage, and a state-level Intermediate 4-H Camp is being explored for the July time frame. Camper scholarships traditionally offered by the Iowa 4-H Foundation to campers attending only state-level camps are being extended to all camps held at the Iowa 4-H Center this summer, and the application deadline was extended to accommodate additional applicants. ISUEO is hiring a 4-H Youth Camp Program Specialist for which the Iowa 4-H Foundation has been asked to participate in the selection of. While this summer may not be reflective of identical 4-H programming the Iowa 4-H Center had come to know, maximizing camp programming for the 2013 is the utmost goal. The Iowa 4-H Foundation will continue to play our part in providing financial resources to ensure camp improvements and ongoing support of campus. Please thoughtfully consider a donation of financial support.
As some of you may know, we were exploring two safe rooms at the Iowa 4-H Center with the assistance of a FEMA grant and raised funds for the planning and design phase. Given recent events, those plans have been modified; The property committee of the Iowa 4-H Foundation is looking at alternative designs that will still meet storm shelter goals, maximizing the contributions previously given. More information will be available as the project continues to unfold.
Additionally, a FAQ page has been added to the Iowa 4-H Foundation website for reference.
