Message from the President

by Bill Gray

The snow is finally done, and spring is in the air! It's almost time to get the club ready for the season and boats in the water. Plan to be at the Spring Work Party as a way to get your volunteer hours in. Dale has a great list of projects in his article below so come prepared to jump into one of those tasks.

Boats can be launched starting after the work party. If you need help, ask for help, most people are willing to lend a hand and don't charge more than a drink on the porch afterwards.

It looks like we'll have a few openings on the docks but we have a waiting list so the dock is expected to be full again this year with some folks still on the waiting list. If you are not planning to put your boat in this year and want to rent out your spot please let us know and we'll arrange that.

Please use caution at the club this time of year. There are lots of people moving about between boats. Please follow the 5 mph posted speed limit on club grounds at all times.

See you at the lake soon!

It's Party Time!

by Pam Ambrass

Let’s get ready to party! Ladies and gentlemen mark your calendars!

PCC will be kicking off its 75th Party Season on Saturday May 31st. This falls the weekend after the Memorial Day Holiday and will be our official Welcome to Summer. If you are new to the club and want to meet people, this is the party for you. If you still haven’t got your boat wet and need a helping hand, this is the party for you. If you think you make a mean pot of chili, this is the party for you.

Dust off those chef’s hats for the annual Steak Fry on Wednesday June 18th. Our very own Porch Rats welcome fellow PCC members as well as racers from Pymatuning Yacht Club for a mouth watering steak dinner cooked to perfection by…YOU.

Independence Day weekend will be a busy one with the Friends and Family Picnic on Saturday July 5th. Traditional burgers and hotdogs will be served up along with fun and games. End the day with fireworks courtesy of Pymatuning State Park. This one is free!

As summer winds down we’ll gather on Saturday August 23rd to celebrate the life and times of one James William Buffett. Dress up in your finest “Parrot-head” wear and waste away one more time in Margaritaville.

Details to follow.

Don’t forget our monthly Hors D’oeuvres parties on the first Saturday of each month. From May until October these officially commence at 6 pm. Bring a favorite dish to share. Nobody ever leaves these parties hungry.

As always input and help is welcome. Just hit me with a text at 412-760-0864 or drop a note in the party box in the drink room. Hope to see you all this summer. Pam

Spring Work Party

Saturday, April 26 at 9am

by Dale Lewis

The best Pymatuning Century Club Work Party of the year is rapidly approaching. The Spring Work Party brings the club back to life after a long cold winter. We’ll be back out on the water before you know it. But before the fun, there is work to be done, and we need everyone to pitch in. We have many projects planned for the club. This is a great opportunity to congregate with all club members in a fun and constructive environment. It is also an easy way to complete the required club volunteer hours.

We need to complete all of the regular spring tasks like cleaning the clubhouse, cleaning and setting up outdoor furniture, installing porch awning, installing portable docks, pulling dead weeds, picking up branches on the lawn and spreading mulch.

In addition to these tasks, if the footers and decking are completed for the Gazebo, we’d like to get a team together to build it. It is a kit that has everything already cut and is ready to be assembled. It is already on the property.

There was also damage to the roof over the wood pile that is attached to the clubhouse from large chunks of ice falling from the roof. We need to remove this roof in preparation for a more solid replacement.

There is a tree next to the garage the needs to be removed by a skilled lumberjack. It is in a tight spot with and electrical transformer next to it, but it is pushing on the garage and needs to be removed.

Weather permitting, the fence along the road desperately needs scraped and painted. If the weather and member turn out is good, we should be able to have several volunteers work on getting that painting accomplished too.

Many other jobs can be done as well.

You can see that there are light and heavy duty tasks to be done so there should be something that anyone can do. Choose your favorite item to attack.

Don’t forget, the work party of followed by the club Spring Membership Meeting and a delicious lunch. Please feel free to bring your favorite soup or dessert to share.

It will be great to see you all there and make this Spring Work Party better than ever.

From your Harbor Master

Just a few quick reminders as we head into the spring... if your boat was stored along the driveway over the winter, please make sure you remove ALL bricks, blocks, planks, chocks or any other materials used to store your boat and trailer are removed after launching your boat. High grass around trailers may hide these things, so double check everything has been removed. Also, when parking your trailer in your summer spot, ensure the trailer is centered and aligned in the spot properly. Thank you!

Small Boat Instructor Course

Would you like to join our PCC Sailing School and become a certified instructor? The Moraine Sailing Club is offering a US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Course May 30-Jun 1. If interested, please reach out to Lidia @ 724-967-1910 or Joe Shields @ 412-779-5818.

Monthly Hors d'Oeuvre Parties!

Our monthly Hors d'Oeuvre parties are some of our favorite events! No RSVP's required and no cost - just show up and bring a dish to share. BYOB or donate to the club fridge! During the winter months (Nov. - Apr.), parties start at 5pm on the first Saturday of every month. During May - October, plan on eating around 6pm to allow more time on the water! This is a great opportunity to invite friends or family and show them what we are all about, or meet some of our new members. See you all then!

Next event: Saturday, April 5th, @5PM.

Dues are now (Past) Due!

A friendly reminder... if you haven't done so already, please send in your Membership Dues for the season. Thank you to all who have already sent theirs in!

Input to our monthly newsletter is encouraged and greatly appreciated! Please email articles and photos to Lidia at szarak2000@yahoo.com or text photos to 724-967-1910 by the 25th of each month.
