As the pandemic continues to evolve so do the management and expectations for 4-H programming. 4-H supports our community to take precautions on an individual basis. As of March, 4-H does not require masks indoors (although recommended) or outdoors. Social distancing is not required. Health screening is still required. For a full update on COVID precautions: https://ucanr.edu/sites/ca4H/COVID_Update/
4-H programming continues to update precautions. Thank you for your patience and attention to the ongoing adjustments to 4-H.

Pat Duffy, the Club Leader for H Lane shared this about Summer: Summer has
set an example of leadership in the club as an officer, her participation in all activities, her helpfulness in welcoming new members, and her ability to set an example of good behavior and respect for others. Summer has demonstrated good sportsmanship and healthy lifestyle. She has excelled in the pony/ horse project in her riding skills, hippology, barn skills and maintenance. We are proud to have Summer in our 4 H Community.

If I had a super power, I would choose indestructibility. I want to be indestructible so that when I fall off a horse or I dive for a ball as goalie, I wouldn't get hurt. Ever since I broke my collar bone after falling off a pony, I've considered this super power.

Congratulations to SUMMER NELSON for being in the Marin County 4-H Spotlight!
|
Name: Summer Nelson
Years in 4-H: 3
Club: H Lane Vaqueros
Project: Horses & Ponies
What I love about 4-H: There are SOOOOO many things I love about 4-H. I can't just pick one. The people in 4-H are definitely one thing I love! 4-H is so inclusive and everyone is so kind and helpful! Lots of people are very easy going, fun and friendly. Lots of younger members are VERY willing to learn and are excited about trying new things!
Favorite 4-H memory: One of my favorite 4-H memory’s is when I helped out Pat with a day camp to get kids who are interested in horses involved with 4-H! I helped run it and it was so much fun! If we did it again, I would TOTALLY help out!
Inspiring leader: A leader that I look up to is Alex Morgan.Alex is an amazing soccer player! She really motivates me and the fact that she started club when she was 13 years old is incredible!
Favorite song: It is hard for me to choose one, but it's probably either Notion by The Rare Occasions or Unstoppable by Sia. Unstoppable is such a powerful song and is a very inspiring song in my opinion. Its basically saying how she usually feels sad and nobody notices or ignores it, but “today” she feels strong, confident, powerful, invincible, and most importantly, unstoppable. Notion is an upbeat song mainly built around the question that if you lived forever would your life matter? I love this song so much that I'm planning to do a freestyle in the WCCS (West Coast Connemara Show) horse show.

Your participation helps our youth grow and improve their skills.

Poultry owners urged to protet birds from Avian Influenza virus
|
The current avian influenza outbreak, which has killed wild birds and domestic birds in at least 29 states across the U.S., is already considered the worst bird flu outbreak since 2015. “When it comes to protecting your flock, there is no treatment for HPAI so the best thing you can do is focus on biosecurity,” said Maurice Pitesky, UC Cooperative Extension poultry specialist in the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis. 4-H Achievement Ranks- Stars- Pilot!

Proposition 12: (Animal Care Program). These will be the guidelines for 2022. Please note the following information from the University of California Office of General Counsel: "Nothing in this guidance explicitly applies the 4-H exemption to breeders (either as part of a parent / producer operation) or on their own. Whether the CDFA recognizes that the 4-H member might actually be breeding pigs (housing the dam) is unclear." As such, guidance on this component is unclear, and members with breeding pigs should not assume they are exempt. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

The transition to the Integrated Web Platform (IWP), replacing the SiteBuilder system, has been delayed. When it does go live (likely Fall 2022), the new Sonoma/Marin/Napa 4-H websites will be outward-facing ONLY for public/new audiences. Therefore, we will need to create an “intranet” for our 4-H families with the forms, materials, proficiencies, and information they need. The State 4-H Office will be creating a Google Site focused on volunteers and youth with standard state forms (e.g., enrollment, manuals). Because this is a statewide site, it may not include specific forms and resources that individual counties use.
