"Sing praises to the Lord, O you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment; his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.”

From The Pastor's Desk:
From Questions To Quiet...
The Trozzo household is an interesting place; with 6 masters degrees and teens who have lived in 3 countries, dinner table conversations can range from “what is time,” to retakes on Bible stories, to jokes in French, to improv rapping, to “did anyone feed the dog?” It’s great to be able to talk about anything - anything at all - and have people listen and respond.
Yet, as I was riding in the car with my 17 year-old, I suddenly realized I don’t know much of what he thinks of God. When you can talk about anything, sometimes you miss checking in on important things. He heads off to college next year (all the way to the University of Akron in Ohio!), and I’ve already shown him churches local to his dorm (his response, “Will they have soup? And brownies?”). I’m trying to be sure that he will have a church home wherever he goes - but will he need church if he doesn’t have faith? Suddenly I was worried.
So I asked him, “What do you believe about God?” And to my delight (I was his Confirmation teacher), he spoke the whole Apostles’ Creed. I was so glad - that knowledge is in his head, and the comfort of being able to speak it means his heart and spirit are engaged in a faith that we can share, even across the miles.
This Holy Week, we open ourselves to questions about our faith. I hope you will join in the many different kinds of worship we will be having, from Palms to the Holy Story at our April 2nd egg hunt, from the Three Days (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday/Easter Vigil) to Easter day’s celebrations. You’ll be inspired by the questions of Scripture and of our community, and you’ll be blessed by the answers God gives. You may be surprised by questions God will ask of you!
But I also hope that you’ll take time to chat with the people dearest to you, asking them that simple question: “What do you believe about God?” They can share with you their faith and their doubts, their hopes and their worries, the ways they’ve learned about God and the ways they encounter God. No one has to give you a perfect answer, of course - in fact, a thoughtful silence may be just as meaningful. But you’ll connect with someone in an important way, honoring them and serving God by opening that conversation. From the youngest talkers to the most wizened elders - ask, and listen!
Peace,
Pastor Wendolyn

Lord Of Life Meditation Walk
If you have not experienced the Stations Of The Cross or if you have done so in the past, Holy Week is an appropriate time for this journey. Meditation walk is located along the pathway that leads to our Memorial Garden. The entrance is at the south-east corner of the parking lot to the left of the cell tower and is pictured above.
Cast metal plaques, depicting the Stations Of The Cross, line the way. They are numbered from 1 to 14. The images are the "traditional" ones. The link below will provide a printable meditation reference.

Appalachian Service Project:
Sponsors Needed
For "Miles"
As we await notification of where we will be going in West Virginia, our focus has switched to fund raising. Each of our 12 volunteers have paid $350.00 out-of-pocket to cover their meals and lodging. Renting a 15 passenger van and supplying it with fuel is our next concern. We are asking for donations per mile from our congregation members, which has been very successful for our past trips. Thrivent support money has also been requested. Please prayerfully consider helping us with our trip.
To be a sponsor and make a donation, use the form shown in the photo. You can download and print the donation form by clicking on the link below. Copies of the form can also be found on the welcome table in the Narthex.
For more information, please contact Penny Miller. A link to her email is below.

Their Eyes Were Watching God
by Zora Neale Hurston
One of the most important works of twentieth-century American literature, this beloved 1937 classic, is an enduring Southern love story sparkling with wit, beauty, and heartfelt wisdom. Told in the captivating voice of a woman who
refuses to live in sorrow, bitterness, fear, or foolish romantic dreams, it is the
story of fair-skinned, fiercely independent Janie Crawford, and her evolving
selfhood through three marriages and a life marked by poverty, trials, and
purpose. A true literary wonder, Hurston's masterwork remains as relevant and affecting today as when it was first published -- perhaps the most widely read and highly regarded novel in the entire canon of African American literature.
Please join us for an always stimulating conversation!

Helping Hands Ministry
Wednesday, April 26th,
At 9:30 AM
(For The Christian Caring Center)
Helping Hands is a monthly ministry to make sandwiches for the homeless served by Christian Caring Center. It meets the last Wednesday of each month. We form an assembly line and make over 200 sandwiches in an hour. Jobs are easy – putting meat and cheese on a roll, placing sandwiches in a baggie, counting the sandwiches, and putting them in a grocery bag. Everyone gets a small, easy task and a lot gets done quickly while we share some time together. We keep everyone safe by wearing gloves and masks, spacing ourselves, and venting the room. All are invited to join us! If you have any questions, please contact Janell Reich.

MORE Athletic Shoe Collection
MORE stands for Modular Organic Regenerative Environments. The group is 100% funded by recycling athletic shoes, keeping them out of landfills. Donated shoes are sold to participating vendors in developing countries. Proceeds regenerate forests and jump start small farming co-ops in needy regions. This creates retail jobs while stimulating free enterprise. MORE provides basic supplies, tools, seeds (fruit-bearing mango, papaya, avocado and income producing mahogany), and agroforestry training to poor farming families, school children and rural villages.
You can contribute your used sneakers or athletic shoes by placing them in the collection box located in the church entryway. Please sneaker-type used footwear only, no dress or other shoes.
On March 29th, another full box of sneakers was sent to MORE. Thank you to everyone who deposited your used sneakers into the collection box!

Some would be: quilt making, lap blanket making, Helping Hands, Vacation Bible School, Bridge of Peace Meals, Christian Caring Center Toy Drive, Wiley Fellowship, etc. You can sponsor one of these activities and receive funding from Thrivent.
What Would A Thrivent Member Have To Do?
Second: There is some online "paperwork" that needs to be completed before and after the project. There will be someone from Council who will help you with this.

LifeLines Ending Songs:
This issue of LifeLines spans Holy Week. The mood changes rapidly as we travel from Palm Sunday to Maundy Thursday, to Good Friday, and finally arrive at Easter. Here are three songs that will join us on this journey.
|
|
The first song has been used by many choirs over the years as a traditional Palm Sunday anthem. Our choir has sung a version of this piece. It was composed in 1864 by Jean-Baptiste Fauré (1830–1914).
|
|
The second is a familiar hymn that we sing on Good Friday almost each year, "The Old Rugged Cross."
|
|
On Easter, this familar hymn is often used. Here is a version of ELW Hymn 367 sung by 3 choir members of Sammamish Hills ELCA Lutheran Church in Washington state.
|
