10th Congressional District High School Art Competition and Exhibition

Each year, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier hosts the 10th Congressional District High School Art Competition and Exhibition. The exhibition is a judged art show, open to high school students from public and private schools in the Tenth Congressional District of California, as well as high school students home-schooled within the district.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

The exhibition will be displayed publicly and will culminate in a closing awards event. The winning artwork of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country. The winning artwork will also be featured on House.gov's Congressional Art Competition page.

Congressman DeSaulnier’s office will be accepting virtual submissions until April 11, 2025 at 5:00pm. Visit Congressman DeSaulnier's website for the rules and more information.

Earth Day 2025 is April 22nd!

Celebrated each April since 1970, Earth Day is a time to celebrate our planet and contribute to environmental protection. What actions can you take Earth Day (and every day) to protect our environment?

  • Drive Less - Driving is the greatest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the Bay Area. Bike, walk, take transit, or work from home every chance you can. Check out incentives for changing your commute.
  • Volunteer - Grab your gloves and pitch in at a local cleanup event or other volunteer activity.
  • Recycle Your Batteries - Contribute to a healthier planet by recycling your old batteries – including e-bike batteries – at drop-off locations throughout Contra Costa. Find locations near you.
  • Support Green Businesses - The Green Business Program recognizes businesses that conserve energy and water, minimize waste, prevent pollution, and reduce their carbon footprint. If you own a business, become a certified Green Business. If not, support Green Businesses in your area.
  • Celebrate Earth Day with others and learn more about sustainability efforts in your community. Discover events happening near you.

Victim's Rights Recognition Ceremony

In honor of National Crime Victims’ Week Supervisor Andersen attended the Victims’ Rights Recognition Ceremony hosted by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday, April 9th. Speakers included La Shara Johnson with the Family Justice Center, Marilyn McMullen with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Isabel Serena who is a Victim Witness Advocate, and Jenna Franklin with the DA’s Office Sexual Assault unit.

A Special Courage Award was presented to Bianca Palomera, who intervened when a special needs individual was being harassed in the restaurant where she was working. Bianca was then attacked and lost vision in one of her eyes because of the assault. With her bravery and testimony against the perpetrator he was convicted of this crime.
