Manor ISD Statement: April 12 Incident at Manor High School
Manor ISD is committed to transparency. The purpose of this statement is to make our community aware of an incident that occurred today at approximately 3:30 p.m. at Manor High School. This incident resulted in the arrest of a teacher.

A Manor High School scholar was attempting to enter the building through a doorway, when a teacher denied the scholar access. The teacher attempted to redirect the scholar to another door, but the scholar refused and pushed past the teacher. The teacher was then observed striking the scholar several times. A Manor ISD Police Officer observed the incident from a hallway and initiated an arrest.

The teacher is being processed at the Travis County Jail. The teacher will be charged with injury to a child, a third-degree felony. The campus administration reported the incident to Child Protective Services and the Texas Education Agency. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Manor ISD Police Department.

The safety of Manor ISD scholars is our number one priority, and we want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to support our scholars and the Manor High School campus. The mental health crisis team will be on campus for the remainder of the week to support staff and scholars.

We must respect the privacy of the scholar and their family. Our district is committed to the safety and wellness of every scholar. Manor ISD will continue to take any and all steps necessary to follow through on this commitment as our entire school community continues to be impacted by these challenging times.

Manor ISD will not tolerate conduct that jeopardizes or threatens the safety and security of our scholars. We take these matters very seriously and will use every avenue that the law allows to ensure our scholars are protected.

Manor ISD will not release any additional information at this time, pending the ongoing investigation.

Sincerely,

Dr. Andre D. Spencer
