Greetings!
Thank you to everyone who attended our club Business meeting. It was nice to see so many smiling faces. I’m happy to announce all motions passed! The 45th annual SNR Conference is April 30 - May 2, 2021. Registration is now open and because it’s online, it’s free this year. Everyone has the opportunity to attend this year’s conference from the comfort of their own home. They have some great guest speakers lined up and they will even be giving away some prizes, so mark your calendars. If you register before April 20th, you will be entered into the Early Bird drawing.
Joyce emailed out the Signup Genius for members to sign up to deliver meals to Jeanne Neveau-Smith. She had back surgery last Wednesday and should be home recovering this Friday. If you haven’t had a chance to sign up yet, you can scroll down in the eblast for the link and sign up now.
Be sure to join us for this week’s awards presentation on Zoom, Wednesday at noon. The Giving Committee has some fabulous awardees to share with you. Please sign in 5 - 10 minutes early so we can start our awards presentation on time.
With Gratitude,
President Billie

Violet Richardson Youth in Service The Violet Richardson Award recognizes young women between the ages of 14-18 who make the community and the world a better place through their volunteer efforts. The Giving Committee is pleased to announce that this year’s winner of the Violet Richardson Award is Kendra Johnson.
Kendra has volunteered at Jan’s Rails to Trails Rescue Sanctuary for the last six years, beginning as an intern and rising to become an assistant trainer. Kendra’s volunteer efforts involved cleaning stalls, feeding and training horses, and teaching children between the ages of 4 and 13 how to ride horses. Kendra says her volunteer activities helped her to learn responsibility, compassion, and patience. These traits will be of service to her when she attends college and pursues animal sciences to study animal assisted therapy.
The $1,000 Violet Richardson Award will be split between Kendra and Jan’s Rails to Trails Rescue Sanctuary

Tech Trek Award Tech Trek is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) camp designed to develop interest, excitement, and self-confidence in young women who will enter eighth grade in the fall. This years winner is Ella Grothe.
Ella is currently attending Chico Jr High as an 8th Grade student. Her 7th Grade teachers described her as "...highly motivated, which she demonstrated by fully participating in class projects, discussions, and labs..."
Through our Tech Trek interview process, Ella shared her strong interest in space, and in math. Her activities have included Chico Science Fair, CJHS leadership, Chess Club, gardening, soccer, karate, and piano.
Ella participated enthusiastically in the two Zoom STEM projects that our Chico Branch members devised to help fill the void left by cancellation of the in-person 2020 Tech Trek Camp at UC Davis.

Dottie Locke Imagining Possibilities For young women leaving the foster care system who have been recognized as outstanding and achievement oriented individuals. Have been in foster care or a group home system and are being emancipated; are motivated to succeed in school and/or work; have overcome obstacles while maintaining a positive outlook; are an inspiration to their peers; demonstrate initiative and leadership; and have financial need.
The Dottie Locke Imagining Possibilities Award is being presented to Giovanna (Gigi) Bococcini. She has experienced homelessness, the Camp Fire, the pandemic and still managed to graduate from high school in 2020. Now she is living on her own in Chico, enrolled in Butte College Cosmetology Program still meeting the goals she sets for herself. She has worked at a catering service in Paradise, the ILP store and the Paradise skate rink. She and her friends bought tacos and burritos and handed them out to the homeless community in Oroville. She played soccer and loves to sing. She hopes to play the cello one day. Her long-term plan is to complete the cosmetology program and business at Butte College so that she can start work on owning her own salon. The ILP Caseworker wrote the following in a letter of recommendation: It is so inspiring to me that a young lady who has been through so many trials and tribulations has maintained such a positive attitude and work ethic. I can’t wait to see all the great things she accomplishes, and I know this award would benefit her greatly.
Giovanna (Gigi) Bococcini was recommended for the Dottie Locke Imagining Possibilities Award by the following people: Natalie Worthington, MSW Youth for Change Transitional Housing Program; Marina Bacon, Senior Social Worker Butte County Children’s Services; Kylie Gonzalez B.S.W, Independent Living Program Caseworker.
