NATIVE AMERICAN APPRECIATION SUNDAY

April 16th at Dayspring Tempe is Native American Appreciation Sunday. Our guest preacher is Rev. Tweedy Evelene Navarrete. Pastor Tweedy is a full blood Diné (Navajo). She was the first Navajo woman to be ordained in the Navajo Tribe and in the Western Jurisdiction of the UMC and the second native woman to be ordained in the U.S. A longtime friend and colleague of Pastor Jeff, Pastor Tweedy served on many boards and agencies of the UMC and served as a pastor for 34 years before her retirement.

BORDERLANDS PRODUCE RESCUE

Volunteers are needed to pack food boxes of approximately 70lbs that we share for a $15 donation. This is a great chance to spend time in the Arcadia neighborhood, interact with neighbors, reduce food waste and bring healthy food to local families. Our next event is this Saturday, April 15, in the Dayspring Arcadia parking lot from 5:30-10:00am. If you’re interested, please email Amy.

POOR PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN

A National Call for Moral Revival has emerged as a movement that is effectively confronting systemic injustices such as poverty and economic inequality, racism, ecological detestation, and the war economy, while also confronting the false moral narrative of religious nationalism—a narrative that has been so instrumental in perpetuating these systemic injustices. Efforts to build an effective Arizona campaign are now underway. This Saturday, April 15, is an opportunity to participate in an introductory “Meet and Greet” event at Eastlake Park, (1549 E. Jefferson, Phoenix) from 2 to 4pm.

SIERRA SERVICE PROJECT

We will have a final interest meeting this Sunday, April 16, for those interested in the week long SSP service project for youth in grades 8-12. Youth will meet at 10:30 and parents at 11:30. Email Erin with questions or for more information.

WHO IS MARY MAGDALENE?

Mary Magdalene is a controversial figure in Christianity, although she is known by some as the "Apostle to the Apostles." In this study, we will explore who she was, her role as an apostle, the nature of her relationship with Jesus and her teachings as presented in the Gospel of Mary. Together we will learn what made Mary Magdalene one of Jesus' most important and beloved disciples. We'll attempt to unravel all the "Marys" in the Gospel. We'll discover her legacy as an apostle to our times - perhaps reveling a path of conscious love that we too are invited to walk. The book for this discussion is The Gospel of Mary of Magdala by Karen L. King. This four-week Zoom study and discussion will meet at 10am starting April 20. Please email the church office to register or call (480) 838-1446.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

We’ve started our new house for this year! The build site is near downtown Glendale. Start time is 7:30 on Saturday, April 22. Carpooling is available. Email Mark Boyle for more information or to volunteer. No previous construction experience is necessary.

FOURTH SUNDAY FOOD DRIVE

We will collect non-perishable items for our neighbors through Tempe Community Action Agency next Sunday, April 23. Donations may be left on the benches at the front gate to be collected and delivered to TCAA following Sunday's services. If you're unable to bring food to donate, but would still like to contribute, please go to dayspring-umc.org/give

SACRED EARTH SUNDAY

Join us for Earth Day events on April 16th at Arcadia and April 23rd at Tempe hosted by our S.A.G.E. ministry (Spiritual Activists Greening the Earth). After each service, join us for “coffee, cookies and climate” – including the Dayspring Children’s Sacred Earth Art Exhibition and a 10-minute film on “What’s the Big Deal With a Few Degrees” by climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe. The S.A.G.E. team will provide an easy-to-use household carbon footprint calculator. Plus we’ll offer plenty of ideas to consider as we ask Dayspring members to “Pledge2Act” – identify two new actions your family can take over the next year to take care of God’s sacred creation.

TAIZÉ SERVICE

The next Taizé Service will be held in Fellowship Hall next Sunday, April 23, at 4pm. This is a time of quiet, meditative prayer and simple music, allowing the mystery of God to become known through the beauty of simplicity.

Open to all moms in search of a kid-free night out, the Dayspring Moms Group will meet for dinner and conversation at Freely Taproom (1730 E Warner Rd.) on Friday, April 28 at 7:00pm. Email Andrea to RSVP or with questions.
