Bishop Megan Visits Christ the King, Quincy
Last Sunday, Bishop Megan visited with the faithful community of worshippers at Christ the King, Quincy. While there, the bishop lead worship, preached, and celebrated the Eucharist. Thank you to the folks at Christ the King for your warm welcome and hospitality.
Pilgrimage to Historic St. Paul’s Inspires Hope
Some two dozen people gathered at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, April 13, 2024, to learn more about the history of the first congregation established in the Diocese of Northern California nearly 175 years ago.
“Fearless Faith: A Sacred Ground Pilgrimage to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Sacramento” was a joint effort between the diocesan Commission for Intercultural Ministries, which oversees racial reconciliation efforts, and one of the committees planning the upcoming “Fearless Faith” Episcopal Revival.
Viewing St. Paul’s history through the Sacred Ground lens entailed learning about both the dark side of its history and its bright spots.

Restoration of Emmanuel Church, Coloma
Photos: Scaffolding still surrounds the building. Top Right: Painted lumber fills the building, ready for installation on the sides of the building and the steeple. Bottom Right: The rotted remains of the steeple sit in a corner near the church.
Thank you, community, for your support! The Emmanuel Church restoration in Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma is nearing completion. A team of restoration artists has been working hard for months on this project and completion is expected by June. The church will once again be a popular venue for weddings and other events. If you're in the area, drive by the church (on Church Street, naturally) and take a look. While you're there, check out the almost-complete St. Johns Catholic Church.
St. Paul’s New Mural Celebrates “Inclusivity and Openness”
Community neighbors and visitors to downtown Sacramento have new artwork to admire as they walk or drive along J Street. St. Paul’s 175th Anniversary Planning Committee commissioned artist Nora Bruhn to create a mural to fill the two bricked-up window spaces on the west side of the church building.
The mural entitled “Colors of Compassion” was installed March 26 by the artist who said the artwork represents concepts of inclusivity and openness.

Fearless Faith Revival Updates
Fearless Faith: A Creation Care Pilgrimage to
St. Martin's, Davis
Sunday, April 21 | 4:00 pm | St. Martin's, Davis
Come enjoy a wonderful celebration of Earth Day and the ways that our faith can help us deepen our care for Creation. On April 21 at 4pm, the St. Martin’s Sanctuary Choir will present “The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass” in a concert to celebrate Earth Day. Admission is free. The concert pairs “The World Beloved” with readings from “Bucolics,” a psalm-like collection of poetry by Maurice Manning, written in the voice of a southern sharecropper.
Composer Carol Barnett describes her 2007 work as “combining sacred classical choral tradition with the sparkling down home sound of a bluegrass band.” Poet Marisha Chamberlain has provided a text that honors the liturgy while presenting an unpretentious, earthy philosophy in which God dwells right here among us, expressing love through creation.

Sacred Spaces at the Revival
In addition to the spirit-filled worship, there will be several opportunities for attendees to experience quiet, contemplative spaces:
Season of Courage: It is I, Lord. The Commission for Intercultural Ministries and the Commission on the Environment are presenting an immersive exhibit to share stories of people answering the call to show courage in service to growing the Beloved Community and caring for the environment. Fifteen stories from Clergy and Laity around the diocese will be shared. A QR code will be provided on each poster to enable visitors to read a fuller description of the stories. Exhibit visitors will be invited to write a prayer for courage and hang it on the Prayer Tree in the center of the space.
Redwood Prayer Chapel
Jacob Zuniga, a parishioner of Grace Church, Healdsburg is constructing
a prayer chapel made from redwood boughs and grapevines. Visitors will be invited to write a prayer on a strip of fabric and tie it to the chapel.
Walk a labyrinth
Trinity Cathedral is bringing their portable labyrinth, allowing attendees to experience this ancient practice at the Revival Festival.

Missioner for Disaster Resilience
Disaster Preparation Academy Postponed
I would like to extend my thanks to the leaders and volunteers of Christ Church, Eureka, for being willing to host a day long disaster preparation academy and catered lunch; however, this congregation has been asked to help the diocese by providing the remote site for the Fearless Faith Revival and they deserve some time off afterwards.
In an effort to give Christ Church some much needed rest, the academy that had been scheduled for May 11, 2024 has been postponed. It will be rescheduled after consultation with the diocesan training partner, Blue Lake Rancheria. Please be patient and the new information will be posted as quickly as possible.
Peace,
Mark

Climate Blessing from Interfaith Power and Light
We Hold the Earth
We hold brothers and sisters who suffer from storms and droughts intensified by climate change.
We hold all species that suffer.
We hold world leaders delegated to make decisions for life.
We pray that the web of life may be mended through courageous actions to limit carbon emissions.
We pray for right actions for adaptation and mitigation to help our already suffering earth community.
We pray that love and wisdom might inspire my actions and our actions as communities. . .
so that we may, with integrity, look into the eyes of brothers and sisters and all beings and truthfully say, we are doing our part to care for them and the future of the children.
May love transform us and our world with new steps toward life.
