Ann Appert Named Lafayette
Citizen of the Year
The Lafayette Chamber's independent selection committee chose Ann Appert as Lafayette's 74th Citizen of the Year for her many years of service to our community. The 2025 Citizen of the Year Dinner honoring Ann Appert was held on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa.

Board of Supervisors Designate Haj Nahal as
Interim Auditor-Controller

Contra Costa County is looking for a new auditor-controller, and has designated Deputy Auditor-Controller Haj Nahal as the interim Director of the department until someone is appointed.
The Board of Supervisors is committed to appointing a qualified individual to fulfill the remainder of former Auditor-Controller Bob Campbell’s term, which runs through 2027. In the weeks ahead, the Board will expand its search to ensure a thorough and inclusive appointment process.

Town of Danville Invites Students to Showcase
Creativity This Summer

The Town of Danville is calling on middle and high school students, including graduating seniors from the class of 2025, to showcase their creativity through two exciting opportunities: the 2025 Student Film Festival and the Danville Community Pianos project.
2025 Student Film Festival
Budding filmmakers are invited to submit original short films for a chance to see their work on the big screen at the 2025 Student Film Festival. The event will take place on August 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Village Theatre & Art Gallery in Downtown Danville.
Films must be 10 minutes or less in length, rated PG, produced on a budget of less than $100, and feature student actors. Submissions must be provided via flash drive along with a completed application by July 11 at 5 p.m. at the Village Theatre & Art Gallery.

Danville Community Pianos
Student artists are invited to design and paint the Danville Community Pianos, a cherished summer tradition bringing public art and music to Downtown Danville. Artists may submit original, full-color sketches of their proposed designs for consideration. Selected artists will bring their designs to life on two pianos, which will be displayed outdoors for public enjoyment from June 2 through Labor Day.
The submission deadline for design proposals is May 9 by 10 p.m., and artists will be notified of their selection by May 16. Painting will take place between May 19 and June 1 at the Danville Community Center and Danville Senior Center. On June 2, the completed pianos will be placed for public display.

Would You Like to Serve on Contra Costa County’s
Retirement Board?
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is seeking individuals with a sound business background, experience in pension fund investment or administration, or in equity investments or banking, to serve on the Contra Costa County Employees’ Retirement Association Board of Trustees. To be considered, candidates must be County residents, must not be Retirement System members or retirees, and may not market any investment, consulting, or related service to the Contra Costa County Retirement Board or any other 1937 Act Retirement Board.
Application forms can be obtained from the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors by calling (925) 655-2000 or by visiting the Advisory Body webpage. Deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday, April 25, 2025. Applicants should plan to be available for public interviews via Zoom on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

Contra Costa County Probation
Seeking Youth Applicant for Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council
The Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council (JJCC) is a multi-agency advisory body that contributes to the development and implementation of a countywide juvenile justice plan. It is composed of several critical parts; including, but not limited to, an assessment of existing law enforcement, probation, education, mental health, health, social services, drugs, alcohol, and youth resources, which specifically target both at-promise, as well as system involved youth, and their families.
The JJCC will also coordinate the work of governmental and non-governmental organizations engaged in activities designed to reduce the incidence of juvenile crime and delinquency in the greater community. Further, the JJCC will develop information and intelligence sharing systems to ensure county actions are fully coordinated and equipped to provide data and appropriate outcome measures.
The JJCC is a 20-member Advisory Body that regularly meets in Martinez. The Youth Representative seat, 14 to 25 years old residing or working within Contra Costa County, is available. Term is two years.
Applications are due by 5pm Friday, May 9th. All applicants who submit by the deadline will be invited to the public interview process conducted by the Public Protection Committee. This committee will then recommend a selection of applicants for the Board of Supervisors to appoint. Interviews with the Public Protection Committee will occur May 19th, with appointment by the Board of Supervisors at their June 10th meeting.

AB109 CAB Looking for Members from Central County!
Community Advisory Board (CAB) For AB 109 Public Realignment was established by the Community Corrections Partnership (CCP) Executive Committee in December 2012 to provide input on community needs; assess implementation of the realignment plan; review data on realignment outcomes; advise the CCP on community engagement strategies; offer recommendations for ongoing realignment planning; advise County agencies regarding programs for implementation in the County; and encourage outcomes that are consistent with the County’s Reentry Strategic Plan.
The CAB is composed of Members with expertise in workforce development, behavioral health issues, post-release reentry services, services for reentering women, criminal and drug court, crime survivors, domestic violence prevention, adult education within a correctional setting, law and policy related to issues of the formerly incarcerated, and anyone interested in public safety issues. All CAB members either live or work in Contra Costa County.
Meetings are the 2nd Thursday of each month from 10am to 12pm at the Probation Department: 50 Douglas Drive, Second Floor, Martinez.

In-Home Supportive Services Public Authority Advisory Committee
The IHSS Public Authority Advisory Committee provides advice and assistance to the Board of Supervisors and the staff of the IHSS Public Authority regarding the IHSS program and policies of the IHSS Public Authority. The Public Authority recruits and screens homecare providers, maintains a registry of providers, refers providers to consumers and enrolls all IHSS providers on the State Payroll.
